Everyone should try this legendary Portland establishment at least once. I used to work right at cross the street in 2017 and have been coming ever since. It’s definitely unassuming from the outside but packs a big flavorful punch on the inside. Prices are very reasonable, the tacos and cheeseburger are some of my favorite in town. If I had it my way there would be a pepper box on every corner.
It’s a hidden, New Mexican cuisine gem. Anyone that’s visited NM and misses the food, will like Pepper Box. FYI, all the great food in NM is no frills and sounds like basic ingredients with peppers, but it’s really amazing.
Delicious Mexican style breakfast spot without frills but lots of character. A tight menu you can't go wrong with and good prices. Friendly staff with great taste in music. Definitely try the carrot habañero sauce!
We are visiting from Albuquerque. I'm a native New Mexican, my breakfast burrito was lack luster, it was thrown together with no care, the eggs were burnt. There was way to much black pepper in the green sauce and the potatoes were not cooked well. Like someone else here said, with all the breakfast options in Portland we won't be coming here again. My husband liked his lunch burrito, I tried it and the Carne Asada was dry to me. I was hoping so much for this place to be great! It's a shame that they aren't representing New Mexican food better.
Holy smokes this place is fantastic. Coming from Arizona I have had a really tough time finding AZ/NM style Mexican food here in Portland. A great red chile sauce is hard to come by, but I've finally found it.I got huevos rancheros with red and green chile and it was killer. Went back up to order some breakfast tacos to take home to my partner and couldn't help but steal some red chile carne adovado and it was insane.Incredibly friendly service and affordable to boot. Can't wait to come back for some enchiladas next time.
The food is healthy homemade, flavorful, and actual human sized portions. I ate my entire plate and didn't feel stuffed or still hungry afterwards. Can't wait to come back again.
Excellent food as always. As an expat New Mexican, I've been enjoying Pepper Box's food for years, even since they were in a food truck. I am thankful that they get New Mexican food right, the chile is on point and all the sides are quintessentially New Mexican. Do yourself a favor and treat yourself to flavors of New Mexico. Pepper Box is delicious consistently, and they are fast and efficiently run. Thanks for the great food!
This isn’t like any breakfast burrito I’ve had, and not in a good way. It was a thick tortilla covered in red enchilada sauce (canned?) also on the cold side. I wouldn’t recommend given all your breakfast options in Portland.
I ordered 2 Farmer's Tacos and they were HUGE! AND so delicious! I couldn't finish and I have a big appetite. So yummy and affordable and very friendly service!
Always ready on time. Always friendly folks working inside. Both the fajita tortilla wrap and the lunch bean burrito ? were fabulous, as always! This place is a must visit!
