Coming from a meat eater….this spot is great. Flavors are big but not overwhelming. Friendly little spot. Nice little sake selection; get the spring release taster while you can. Very fresh and fruity sake.
Such delicious food! The onigiri are the best I've ever had. I love the curry udon too! Order adventurously, you won't be disappointed.
Delicious! Comfort food at its finest. Reminds me of where I used to live with this bento place run by a Japanese gal next door that I'd go to all the time. Everything is vegetarian and most things have vegan+gluten free options, which is super nice. Everything was delicious!
As a gluten free vegan it’s so rare to have options! I ordered an onigiri and kenchinjiru soup bowl for dinner. It was delicious, but probably a bit small for a full meal. Great flavors and so nice to add some variety to my typical veggie bowl dinners.
It's okay. I ordered the katsu curry. I've had authentic katsu curry before and the sauce wasn't quite right: lacking in spice. The tofu had a strange sponge-like texture (I'm vegan and eat lots of tofu, so it's not that I'm not used to tofu). As well, there's no white rice option here -- every dish has brown rice. Service was distant: you seat yourself, order from a QR code, and they didn't ask how I was enjoying the food -- not sure what I'm tipping for here. Bao Bao is just 8 blocks north and have good vegan options if you want a nearby alternative.
Every dish here is delicious, but the curry udon is truly phenomenal. The staff is always friendly helpful and passionate about great food and sake. A must visit for anyone in Portland
Delicious and unique food! hangover cure haha. i ate at their spot in the morrison market and am so glad they have their own place now. I really enjoyed the okonomiyaki. the kenchinjiru is a great light soup, very comforting. add the kakiage. the onigiri is a new flavor for my taste buds, but i enjoyed it enough to want to try more flavors. but the best part? the doggie sushi! cody loved it. ?❤️
I cannot recommend this place enough! Every meal we tried off of the menu was a huge hit. The udon salad was especially delicious, but me and a group of 4 ordered a ton of things off the menu and every single one was delicious! Also the staff here are the most friendly and down to earth folks ever. They make you feel right at home and are so so kind. Definitely check out this delicious Japanese spot if you haven't gotten the chance to yet!
I'm in love! The freshness, good vibes, delicately planned & prepared. I had the combo added stew & a sake. Flavorful but not overdone, variety of textures, beautiful presentation, well balanced meal. This is a solid 5 stars ? ?
This restaurant specializes in health Japanese country style dishes that are made to order.. Their salads, pickles, soups, etc, are made with high quality vegetables simply prepared so the flavors remain. Onigiri are made with brown rice and offered with innovative flavors . I felt like I was back in rural Japan where I spent a year decades ago eating well from local farms.
