Of course downtown Portland lost that certain charm. However for the few businesses left this place hands down somehow maintained it's vintage Portland charm and delivers it with comfort food and it brings your taste buds back to the good restaurants or diners. The people who are working seem down to earth and like to have conversations with you and it's freshly needed during these times. I'm impressed by the food definitely. But if I can recommend anything it's just one. Flatware you have is extremely dull and needs updated. Other than that.. I'm coming back for sure ?
Hearty breakfast for a great price.
Nice spot good food. Corn hash browns were a little over cooked. The family side was quieter than the other side. I was told we couldn't sit on the family side (my wife and I) that it was for families... My wife and I wanted it quite but we were hungry or would have left. Felt they took a little long to get to us and take our order. The waiter was running around but did acknowledge us. Free WiFi... Older establishment.
Gross spongey, tough/chewy (not cakey) pancakes (like the kind that come frozen that you microwave––if you want Perfect cakey pancakes, go to Shari's or Biscuits Cafe).Additionally, I ordered for delivery and my 3 pancakes (short stack) came with ONE (1) single syrup. Are you kidding me?? Shari's gives you TWO (2) syrups for TWO (2) pancakes. This places gives you ONE (1) syrup for THREE (3) pancakes. Are they stupid? Sorry but that's def not 5 star service. Then, to make matters worse, my O'briens (hash brows with onions and green pepper) had no onions and green pepper... it was just plain hashbrowns = Got my order wrong. And then... they forget to include the cutlery. They were lucky I had my own because... how the h*ll do you eat pancakes and eggs benny with no spoon or fork??I think my 2 star rating is well-deserved because 3 would be too generous. Won't be back, and I'm glad Postmates refunded me for the Entire Disappointing Meal.
Nice mostly quick service, been there about 10 times now and there was only once that there was a snippy little server who obviously wanted to be somewhere else. They have different things each night... I know Monday is karaoke and Thursday is trivia night. In the back room there are at least six pinball machines and a pool table which is pretty popular and the best 6 lottery machines. The first one is newest and I have seen lots of wins but it is always occupied. The others do their fair share tho. They will let you eat at the small little tables back there. And the food is really good.
I had a great breakfast but the best part of my visit was Erica, she is the waitress & bartender for the whole restaurant and bar 3 rooms. Erica is the only waitstaff from opening until 10:30 or 11am . She doesn't miss a thing coffee, water, whiskey, taking phone orders, working with &around the beverage tech cleaning the beer taps. She got the cook to make me wings for our breakfast order. Remembered to special sides on orders. She also thank & spoke to us on the way out. Thanks Erica YOU ROCK! She definitely needs/deserves a raise MFP, take care of her she really takes care of you..
Only been there once for last call but what a charming little place. Good beer selection and will definitely been swinging by next time I’m in town. Cheers!
Good, well prepared, tasty food. My veggie omelet had fresh, perfectly cooked veggies (NO cooked to death mushy veggies here) & plenty of cheese. O’Brien Hash browns, over-easy eggs, pancakes, & sausage were enjoyed by my partner.Everything was just like my mom makes them.Kudos to the cooks & staff! Thank you for knowing how to serve veggies :DWe will be eating our post-bike/run breakfasts here every weekend!
Quick, friendly service & plenty of variety on the menu. Typical 'diner/dive' options, generous portions that came out piping hot and bottomless pours of coffee. The type of place you'd meet your mom after a night out; like a little slice of Milwaukee, circa 1995. See you again soon.
My Father's Place had been suggested to me a while back as a great place to gather and play board games; apparently they have a regular game night, and a glass case filled with several titles, resting at the end of a row of booths, validates this statement. However, he failed to mention there's also an arcade full of pinball machines and games, pool tables, and good food! Shame on him!It was probably a bit too early in the day for such activities, when we arrived on a Saturday morning, seeking breakfast. I had no idea this bar functioned as a full restaurant, but Yelp had recommended it when we happened to be running errands close by. We were greeted warmly by the hostess, seated immediately, and placed our orders of corned beef hash and eggs benedict, both of which arrived at our table in under 10 minutes.I dig the lighting and aesthetic of the dining area: it's warmly lit and eclectic in its décor, including a hodge-podge of quarter-eaters you'd normally only find in a skating rink, such as a fortune-telling machine, and a Flintstone's Lucky Dino Eggs cabinet, but also a cigarette-dispensing vending machine, and the usual assortment of slot machines and video poker. Somehow, the lighting, the kitsch, the sloppily-stacked board games in a dusty glass case all come together, and create a simultaneously cozy, home-y, and dive-y atmosphere. The food itself is good, not great, but it's hearty, filling, and it'll do the trick. It's "bar food", but better than most places. Nothing on the menu is particularly stand-out, exotic, or must-try: it's standard American diner fare. Stick to what you know, and you won't be disappointed. In terms of dive bars, My Father's Place seems pretty great. There's a lot going on here, and a lot of reasons to find yourself here when you're out and about, looking for a place to hang out with friends, have a drink, shoot some pool or pinballs, and make a night of it. Its got everything you need to have a good time, and in the (very) likely event of having one or two too many drinks, there's plenty of tasty food available to soak it up! Thanks, Dad!
