The food is incredible! I’m so happy to have finally found a legit cajun place here. And they serve Alligator. And it’s fantastic, as are the fried pickles, and gumbo. Looking forward to trying more favorites. Thank you for bringing this to Portland!
Had a weird experience here. Ordered an oyster po boy. No wait time given, no system for letting me know when it was ready. Wait time ended up being about 25 minutes, so I had to go sit down, stand there, sit down again, stand there again. The girl at the register, who was literally just standing there and not helping with the cooking, was not helpful whatsoever. Finally got the food awkwardly and the oysters were very dry. Bread was nice and crusty though which gave a nice texture. Sauce and everything else was bland. Overall not a good experience. Cannot recommend unfortunately.
I had some of the best catfish in town here. This cart does some sorcery with their food, it was so good!We sadly came by for seconds on mothers day but they were closed, and couldn't find anything online indicating they'd be closed! Sad, but we'll be back and as hungry as ever!
Most authentic food I've had outside of Louisiana - everyone wants to make a name for themselves with their own "twist" or "take" on Louisiana classics... not these folks. They do the basics, with perfectly sourced ingredients, and they do them *flawlessly*. Oyster po-boy on Leidenheimer bread (!) was DYNAMITE. Red beans and rice are exactly what they should be - creamy, flavorful, tender, perfect. Muffuletta is well-balanced, with excellent bread (Leidenheimer again?), exactly the right cold cuts and cheese, and an exact layer of some Louisiana-sourced olive salad. Highly recommended from a Lake Charles, Louisiana native if you want some real-deal Louisiana food! :D <3
Very good authentic Cajun food! Dat praline is so good! Chris will take good care of you!

Great food and excellent customer service. Most definitely my new go to for creole food ?
Oh. My. Goodness.I'm so happy we discovered Matt and Memere's!!Authentic food with a true New Orleans feel (and taste)!!We ordered a sausage poboy, half a muffaletta (severed on Leidemheimer bread), chicken and sausage gumbo and beignets....everything was delicious!!!We live almost an hour away but will definitely make this a go-to place when in Portland.Did I mention the Leidenheimer bread? That alone makes me want to give these folks all my money...
I tried to take a photo of the dish, but a taste turned into... Well, you see! My first visit and I will definitely be back! The Shimp Etouffee was outstanding as was the bengiets! The service quick and friendly. A solid recommendation!
My wife decided on the Jambalaya from Matt & Memere's, and was kind enough to share it with me, as her serving made for a generous lunch. When I visit a new (to me) spot with New Orleans food, I have a hard time predicting whether the it will be pleasantly spicy and flavorful, or just hot for the sake of being hot. Fortunately, Matt & Memere's falls in the first group - all the ingredients working together, each with their own distinct flavors (including the rice), and nothing that is overtly painful to put in your mouth. Not being an expert in Cajun cuisine, I would be happy to use this spot as my baseline for judging any future meals. Realistically, I'd guess that I'll be returning here most often, because, if it ain't broke.... why go anywhere else?My only regret - not trying the beignets on my first visit. Looking forward to fixing that situation in the near future.
