Delicious food, but it is good to have a reservation, it is a very small dining room. We were able to get one just a day or two in advance, but we were glad to have a table reserved for us. The food was wonderful, very much like we have had in Switzerland and the French Alps. We like to try restaurants in the Portland area that get good buzz, this is one of the few that I feel like I would like to go back to over and over again. They even do raclette if you call in advance to set it up. We had quite a few different things, including ham and gruyere rosti and a couple of different schnitzels with spatzli, they were all incredible. Because it is such an intimate dinning room we could see what other people were eating and now we need to go back soon to try things we did not get the first time because they looked and smelled so good.
Restaurant is small so recommend making a reservation. We had fondue as appetizer, spaghetti, schnitzel, and chicken florentine (daily special). Everything was tasty but I have to say, the salad dressing was standout. We even bought bottles to go. Atmosphere is really cute inside. Highly recommend giving this place a try.
This dressing is AMAZING! My hairdresser told me about it (we share vegan food tricks) - and raved so hard, I felt the need to give it a go! Boy am I glad I did
At the writing of this review, we are still full from our delicious dinner at Swiss Hibiscus. You will find a charming story, huge portions and kind service at this spot. Destiny was an attentive waitress and this was a wonderful first introduction to Swiss cuisine. Beware of filling up on the bread and included soup/salad!
great WIENERSCHNITZEL; portions are large, but traveled well home and took home to FL :); hate to waste food service was friendly and effient
We decided to give Swiss Hibiscus a try for our daughter's 25th birthday since she loves fondue. We had a terrific meal with great service. When we were done, we checked out the neighborhood's Last Thursday street festival and had a great time walking through the shopping district, checking out the stores and booths. Great beer and wire offerings (limited, but well-curated). The salad sampler was tremendous, as was the fondue and Ramschnitizel special. Profiteroles and a rhubarb tart for dessert topped off a splendid meal.
Don’t let the name fool you, the only thing “exotic” about this restaurant is the beautiful chef and her staff. The chef grew up in Hawaii but the food is completely Swiss comfort food. All of it is delicious, but the salad dressing is especially to die for and I have bought several bottles of it. It’s great on salad but you should really just dip bread in it. Tangy goodness. Literally everything tastes great. The ambiance is cozy and quaint, so you should either get there early or get a reservation. I wouldn’t want to wait long.
A tiny place, we were lucky to get in without reservations on a Thursday evening. We were so impressed by our server Tammy, who was so excited about the food. She explained all the wonderful dishes on the menu, and gave us a great recommendation for wine. Then the food arrived and we were again impressed! Delicious house made sauces and spaetzi and wonderfully tender pork made every bite a delight. Even the house made salad dressing was special!
Three of us, all German/Swiss/Austrian food lovers, had dinner at Swiss Hibiscus on a busy Friday night. Our dinners were flavorful and authentic. The fondue starter is creamy, nostalgically aromatic, and a great beginning for the evening. The raumschnitzel with mushroom sauce was absolutely delicious. The salmon fish special was subtle and fresh. All three of us were most impressed by the sauces the chef produced, which were balanced, flavorful, and perfect complements to the dishes they enhanced. The small place is not fancy, but the food is terrific!
We happened to find the Swiss Hibiscus while looking for a good restaurant relatively near the Portland airport. What a find! The fondue was so good, as was our dessert, but the service made our evening very special. Don’t hesitate - go!
