Lamb kabab and hummus was great! Toum sauce is a must.
This is one of those restaurants that not only serves phenomenal Middle Eastern food, but also hospitality, warmth, comfort, laughter, smiles and a feeling of belonging. The staff and owners were beyond gracious and the service was impeccable. They were playing Traditional music (Fairouz, Oum Kalthoum) that made me reminisce about being on the Mediterranean coast. Also , they serve freshly baked pita bread (wow!!). Absolutely wonderful place for a meal. Will ABSOLUTELY be coming back the next time I’m in Portland!
We thoroughly enjoyed our meal in this darling restaurant. The falafel sandwich was delicious. Not a sandwich where half the falafel balls fall out. I loved the way it was served. So easy to eat! The spanakopita was yummy as was the lentil soup. Topped the meal off with incredible baklava!! We will definitely be adding this restaurant to our ‘we eat here every month list’. Service was stellar. It’s family owned and run.
Another one of those serendipitous events! You know, like when order the wrong thing at a restaurant and it turns out to better than what you thought you wanted, or when you drop a peanut butter sandwich and it lands face up. Okay, maybe not so much the last one. Anyway, I was going to a different restaurant and had gotten the hours wrong and I was so excited to find a parking place within walking distance that I decided to stay in a one block radius and leave the truck in its precious spot. That led me to be standing in front of Mamma Khouri's like a waif left standing in front of an orphanage. The place is light and airy, kind of a mix of modern and old country... lots of white. Even the server was all dressed in white as if she were a commando in the forest dressed in Camouflage, but I jest here. She was kind, welcoming, efficient, and charming. Make no mistake, She sets up the scene for a good experience.I got Momma's Special Shawarma and and French Fries and they were great. I didn't realize that French Fries were a national food of Greece, but that just goes to show you how ignorant I am. I just can't resist a good bit of the blessed tuber. They were great, I had no regrets unlike the rest of my life. The Shawarma was picture perfect, not only visually, but savory and multilayered. Lots of mystery going on there. Usually I'm pretty sure what spices are being used in a dish, but here I just had to throw myself into the river and allow myself to be carried away. Ground Beef is an underrated resource, hamburgers and tacos have flooded the culinary market and distracted from treasures like this. The Shawarma should be assigned as one of the primary food groups and Momma's Special should be gilded and stuck in the National Museum. Thanks Momma!
Mamma Khouri’s is phenomenal. My friend and I went for the first time tonight for her birthday dinner. The food was fresh, warm, packed with astounding flavor and so satisfying for our gluten free and dairy free way of eating. We loved the meat mezze (which included several plant-based options), lamb shank dish and strawberry lemonade. The ambiance was nicer than I expected (classy meets family restaurant) and the servers were warm, welcoming and skillful at the art of being attentive and giving space at the right times. I can’t wait to come back and try many more plant-based options! My new favorite!
Delicious and staff are always so nice. The feta is mixed with delicious fresh ingredients, the grape leaf wraps are perfection. Great spot for a relaxing lunch, we'll be back
This place is AMAZING! From food to staff, just can't say enough. You have to try bamya (bamia). It is really good!Staff is super friendly! It was my first time here and they treated me like I am the regular customer and a friend. We joked around and laughed! All together it was great experience! Can't wait to go back to Portland :)
We’ve been enjoying Mamma Khouris since they opened. This wonderful place is family owned which is obvious every time we eat here. Each and every person who works here is friendly and welcoming. The food NEVER disappoints! Always wonderfully prepared and always delicious. The feta salad is amazing- the flat bread is addictive and the spanakopita is top notch! Anna, Hilda and Joyce are the sweetest gals and take great care of us every time we dine here…We love Mamma Khouris!!!! 5 stars is not enough⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I wish I could give 50 stars! My experience here was amazing and I wish I’d known about this gem before today. The food is made to order and is extremely delicious! The humos is so great. The customer service is on point. I was greeted immediately, serviced in a great time frame, and the host did a wonderful job checking in and being attentive. The ambiance & decor of the restaurant is so chill. Great energy and vibes. I’ll be back with friends for sure.
Vegetarian Food Review: A cold rainy evening and I found this place for some delicious comfort food. The lentil soup literally made me cry because it took me back to childhood days. The owners and the staff are amazing. You know you are sitting in a family setting and literally eating from their kitchen. I tried Tabaouli, Lentil Soup, Rose Lemonade. Delicious is an understatement and I can’t wait to try more. Thank You Anna for the lovely conversation and care you extended. Loved it.
