Delicious, beautiful, great value! The manner in which Mama Bird elevates a protein as simple as chicken is absolutely stunning!!! The chef’s plate pictured was only $17 and was a delicious variety of flavor and texture. I’d never had grilled watermelon before and the way it was prepared infused a smokiness cut with a slight acidity from their prep process. If you’re into spicy, don’t sleep on their house-made pineapple habañero sauce! They let it age through fermentation that just really brings out the heat and the sweet. The indoor layout was really neat. I love the open kitchen right in the middle of the dining room. It makes for such an inviting smell as you walk in. I’ve also never seen such a calm, cool, and collected kitchen staff! They hummed along like a well oiled machine.Definitely recommend this place! I plan to bring out of town friends here when they visit!
Wow! The grilled chicken is so juicy and the skin was so flavorful and crispy❤️ The Aji Verde sauce paired perfectly with it but I didn't quite like the Garlic Miso sauce. Highly recommend!
Really good food, price is a little high but the experience and taste were amazing! The watermelon at the end was amazing!
Simply some of the most talented chefs in Portland. I have had their brunch and dinner and both are an exquisite tour of flavor using fresh ingredients and prepared with a craftsmanship I rarely see in Portland. What first comes across as a menu without options you quickly realize is just focused on perfecting the dishes they serve and boy do they deliver. Mama Bird is “mid-scale” dining by price and atmosphere but the quality of the food is what one would expect from a roof top restaurant at a resort. My only criticism is the coffee is often flat in flavor and comes across as cheap American diner coffee.
I was really impressed with the savory to sweet ratio. There were plenty of options for everyone. I went solo and enjoyed that its counter service. The salmon was incredibly tasty.
I will not be returning. The food took 45 minutes to come out and it was cold. We had an early morning reservation too, so the wait seemed especially long. If you are here at a busy time, expect to wait an hour from the time you order. The wait staff disappeared for most of the time other than bringing out water initially. The waiter was polite. The hostess appeared a little unhappy and she didn't act friendly. As for the food, the chicken was very good. Everything else including the biscuits and gravy was extremely over salted. You could not taste much of the actual food. I would not recommend this restaurant. It is not well managed.
Parents were in town and I had been wanting to try mama bird for a while now. We ordered the whole chicken, potatoes, asparagus, mushrooms, cornbread and Caesar salad. It was all so fantastic and we had quite a bit of leftovers to bring home. The chicken was juicy with crispy skin. The sauces were fun to try - I enjoyed the ahi verde the most. My only complaint is the format of having to order at the front and not really having servers throughout the meal checking in on us once the food was brought out. We needed to go up to the counter to ask for the takeout containers. The outdoor patio area was nice and comfortable on an overcast day. I thought the price for four people was reasonable given the quality of meal. I think I’ll be back.
Ordered takeout from here and really enjoyed it. The food travels pretty well. Salad was beautiful and tasty. Chicken was cooked well and the sauces were great. You get four with a whole bird. I enjoyed the curry and aji verde. I’d like to try the ones we didn’t get. Will order from here again.
Our food took a very long time to come out. The place was busy, but not busy enough to warrant that kind of a wait. The food was decent, I expected better. My expectations were much higher than the reality of the place, and I'm not too hard to please. I may give it another go sometime hoping that it was just an off day.
Ive been here 5 or so times. The chicken is never cooked all the way. Yes, all your clothes will smell like a homeless campfire after dinning here. I hope the owner realizes most of the people working there DNGAF about service, making sure the food is made right, or making sure people have a quality dining experience. Every time I go, it's like asking for food is a burden to them... The place looks really nice, and that have a few sauces that are pretty good. but....Reasons not to go to Mama Bird:1. The food is not good.2. Mama bird doesn't have chefs...They have the equivalent of a McDonalds employee cooking your food. Even with a good recipe, these guys some how make it bad.3. Poor quality service.Note to the owner: I'll be back to take pictures of the uncooked chicken. My advice, is to stop by any chick filet and start rounding up some decent employees. Please explain to me, how is it possible that a fast food restaurant can cook the chicken every time AND have good service but Mama Bird can't?
