I love kenny and zukes. Moved from Portland so I haven't been in a few years. Returned for business so dropped in for breakfast. No table service this day, order at the counter. Simple menu, not like pre covid but included the must haves. Food was good, piping hot. I must say, the crew that closed up the day before left the place dirty. I was second one in and searched for a clean table. I felt bad for the guy who opened, as he's taking orders and cleaning up.
Despite the current difficulties, the food was great, as always, outdone only by the excellent service. Love that place!
I like Kenny and Zukes but it has changed since I went last which is a shame! Not really a delicatessen and brunch place anymore. Minimal deli. Only a small menu you order at the counter and served on paper plates. Bagel and lox was good but not a ton of lox. I loved that it came with veg and was open face and I loved the amount of capers! Didn’t love that the onions were pickled, threw off the perfect balance that is bagel and lox. Matzo ball soup was OK, matzo ball itself was good but soup wasn’t super flavorful. Regular breakfast sandwich on a bagel was bomb. Disappointing deli case: Only a brownie and a cookie in the case. No hamantaschen, no kugel, very empty shelves compared to what it used to be. I think ordering bagels, schmear, and lox to-go for a party or something is the best way to go. Nothing special inside anymore.I understand it just be difficult to continue to operate downtown when people aren’t working in office anymore, just sad to see.
We arrived at noon on a Saturday and it took 30 minutes for a toasted bagel with cream cheese and an avocado bagel. There were three workers and only one seemed to actually be helpful. One woman manned the register and basic bagels, a maskless man who said “he doesn’t care if he moves slow because he gets paid either way” was making sandwiches, and a another woman who only seemed to be stocking a dirty kitchen. When we finally got our bagels, I watched them sit in the toaster already toasted, getting cold for 5 minutes. The bagels tasted stale and the avocado bagel didn’t have the listed ingredients on it. Only go if you want to wait a while for something that isn’t worth it.
In town visiting and stopped by for a late breakfast. I'm not a fan of corned beef in general but theirs was delicious. I also liked their take on pastrami (below) not traditional but very good nonetheless. With an onion bialy. I'd go back.
Top quality no compromises great great sandwiches, worth the extra cost
First time since the pandemic I've been back in. Foods always good but the bread was toasted way too much I couldn't chew it and enjoy my sandwich
A little slow but the staff is kind and food I'd good!!
The food was good but the atmosphere is little bit gloomy. I think it's because of COVID19. I hope it will be better soon.
My friend and I stopped here this afternoon. This place is a hidden little gem for lovers of bagels, their common companions like lox, and sandwiches. I had the L.E.O. scramble; delightful egg scramble with lox and onions. Don't worry, they don't skimp on the salmon at all; I was shocked by the amount of fish in my scramble. Most entres come with delicious potatoes and at least the breakfast comes with rye toast which can be subbed out for their bagels. Highly recommend.I overheard a customer asking for off menu items, and they were told politely that the menu has been slimmed down due to staffing. That isn't to say that the menu is small. On the contrary, it still took up a front-and-back of a 8.5×11.So, whether you're familiar with this place and coming back after COVID or new to it as you're rediscovering the city, I would recommend you stop by.
