Jade used to be a smaller, family-owned place. It was fantastic - the best ever. It's still very good despite dealing in a larger volume. I don't know how they maintained the high quality, but they did. The only downside is that as a larger restaurant, it's a busy and noisy place.
Jade Teahouse is my favorite place in town for tea and a sweet snack. Pictured here are a carrot cake cupcake with the cutest garnish and a vegan sesame ball with coconut caramel. We paired these treats with a pot of jasmine green tea. Although we didn't opt for savory dishes this time, the green papaya salad is delicious!
Nice place, friendly staff, but the food just wasn’t great. The papaya salad was just ok, not terribly interesting, very little spice. Pastries look good though. Oh and it’s really cold in there!
Alas, the time has come to say goodbye to you Jade. It’s been a few good years but you have lost your way. You’ve lost your vibe. It almost felt like we were inconveniencing the staff. The food did not taste fresh and looked tired. Something as simple as a banh mi and it was a disaster. The only good part was the bread but everything inside was not edible. The drunken chicken was more like boiled flavorless ground chicken. The pickled veggies were limp and lacked any sweet acidic flavor. The rest of the items equally disappointing. Goodbye old friend.
The bao and pho were tasty, but the yellow curry was a real disappointment. It was extremely watery and the carrots and potatoes had little to no seasoning. The curry was really more like a soup broth (honestly probably used for both dishes) and way too sweet. I was kind of stunned it was $17. I tend to be hesitant about places with so many dishes on the menu and this is why. With that said, the servers and everyone there was really friendly.
The GO-TO for eating and takeout in my hood. We religiously eat the pumpkin curry, poached chicken and salad rolls. Occasionally tossing in a tasty macaroon: ) Jade gets my vote every time!
This isn't a place that serves multiple types of pho, but their one selection is great pho, and they have excellent, fresh spring rolls. Good place to bring someone who wants to sample a variety of foods, and the pastries on display are tempting!
Consistently one of the best places in a Portland to enjoy Laotian and Thai inspired dishes. The patisserie offerings are delectable thanks to the owner’s training in the South of France. There are many options for Gluten Free diners as well as vegetarians. My ‘go to’ favorites are: Salt & Pepper Squid, Coconut Rice Noodle Soup, Truffle French Fries and their Half Sandwich (Banh Mi) and Soup (rice and chicken) combo.Pro tip during the chaos of pandemic: you can order ahead (this is true as of 10/14/21) via the web by visiting their website, selecting ‘Menu’ and then ‘Take Out Order’ which will take you to their Toast site. This will help you speed up the wait but one thing to note: the pastries are not listed in their Toast site but you can order from the take out window.
This is one of my favorite gluten free destinations! Whenever I visit Sellwood I have to come and enjoy their eats.
Would have thought you can't go wrong with fried rice. Guess I was wrong. All of the veggies (of which we added extra on) were just stems- broccoli? Stems. Bok choy? Stems. Barely any carrot. Just a couple cucumber slices thrown on. And the taste? Not worth half the price, despite the portion size being enough for 2.5 very hungry people.
