Ok let me start off by saying we went on the wrong day. The only reason I gave 3 stars was the wait time. When we got there we were seated and greated by Johnny(I hope that's his name). Everything was great. There were a couple of other 2 tops and then a huge party of maybe 16??? And that's where it went south. It took an hour to get our food. From the starters to the main course. Only 2 waiters so it kind of sucked waiting. But Johnny was super understanding about everything and comped our entire meal. Would definitely try on another day.
A rainy afternoon in Portland calls for warming food. India House was just what I needed. Excellent, filling lunch at a good price. Nothing fancy but not crowded and the waiter was personable and attentive
Visited this place because of all of the positive reviews. Unfortunately, I left disappointed. I tried to make a reservation online and it was denied by the restaurant. I thought, well, maybe they're busy. I decided to go there and try my hand at getting a table anyways. I showed up at the time I requested the reservation and there was two people in the entire restaurant. Why on earth a restaurant would deny a reservation when they are that slow is beyond me. The server had a weird coked out energy. The sauce they gave us with papadums had a hair in it. I let it go because it was complimentary. There was a chaos in the restaurant even though there was no one there. Naan was okay at best, way to crispy. Paneer Tikka Masala, probably the worst I've ever had. I read a previous review that said to come here if you like spicy Indian food. This was part of the reason I actually went there. However, the food I got was bland as all get out. Zero spice. And....the texture of the sauce was not right. When I thought about it later, my server never even asked the level of spice that I wanted, which is a standard in any Indian restaurant I've ever been in. Just go somewhere else. This restaurant doesn't live up to the hype.
We have been coming to India House for over 25 years. They are as incredible today as they were the first day we came in. This restaurant holds a very special place in my heart. Johnny has been a server here for more years than I can count, and is extraordinary. He is personable, smart and intuitive and this place is better because he is here. He takes time to sit down with his customers and have a real connection with them. The food is exceptional and we always feel welcomed, no matter how busy they are. We were just here on a Saturday night, and almost every table was full, and there were, at all times, at least 4 delivery services waiting in line. The service didn't miss a beat. Still our favorite, always will be.
To ALL staff at this restaurant, please be nicer to all the customers including to those waiting to pick up an order. I am witnessing a very rude person right here talking very bad to a customer about his order, the customer was asking nicely about the fact that he had been waiting for a while and this dude right here was so rude to him, disregarding his concern & Every staff here was totally ignoring him and all of us waiting to pick up an order. They should be nicer, we get it you guys are busy but you should treat people with respect, and knowledge the people you are helping, who are giving you business, not just those who are sitting down.
The food was amazing and Justin our waiter went above and beyond! He genuinely helped us experience some new tastes and the journey was wonderful! I went for my birthday so I got to try the special birthday desert at the end. Plus there was a dish I could not remember what it was called so I described it to him and he was able to tell me. Justin even added the veggies to the dish that normally wouldn’t come out that way. Completely worth it! I really felt part of the family! This place definitely is at the top of my favorite restaurants to go to now.
Great and friendly service. Very fresh and tasty curries and naans. Could be little spicier and flavourful though.
Excellent, friendly, and very quick. Big bang for your buck too, one gets a lot of food at dinner. Fantastic service too, the waitstaff was helpful and congenial. Wonderful restaurant.
The food was very tasty and good but the amount of rice they give you looks like a sample not a part of your order. My question is Why do you guys give rice on a sampler cup? The rice is also big part of your meal.
Excellent customer service and food. The waiter Justin in particular was so kind and made sure that we were taken care of. Would highly recommend
