They always make a beautiful and tasty cake :) lovely little old fashioned bakery.
They made us the most beautiful wedding cake I could have ever dreamed of. Picture does not do it justice. The roses sparkled. It was soft, yummy, gorgeous. My dream cake for the most reasonable price I found in the area.Delivery was right on time. No hassles.Thank you to everyone who took part in creating this masterpiece. I will forever remember this beauty.
Absolutely the best Apple Strudel I have ever tasted! The most perfect cake-like texture on the bottom with the freshest apples, almonds and spices on top. Mouthwatering and gone in under a minute.
First time ever being here. The worker expected me to know all the names of the baked goods considering there's no signs on the display and then they didn't have any single items because it was a Sunday. I get the church crowd before me can be rude, but there's no need to take it out on me. At least there's plenty other bakeries in Portland lol
What a lovely bakery to visit in Portland. The staff was wonderful and the atmosphere was great too. Parking was easy and I was in and out in no time. I was blown away by the selections and the discounted items as well. Can’t wait to go back for more!
How did we not know about this place sooner!?! Such a great neighborhood spot. The Cheddar, onion scone was so delicious. The Maple Cinnamon Roll, not to be overlooked, and the Cherry Turnover, OMG! The staff was amazing. So friendly, well informed and patience. Next time we are trying the bread.
Oregon's oldest bakery doesn't disappoint.Boasting an incredible variety of made-from-scratch cakes, donuts, pastries, and more, there's a lot to love about Helen Bernhard's Bakery -- and at a reasonable price, to boot. While they are certainly a jack-of-all-trades bakery, they successfully manage to be masters of a few as well, for while their cakes and donuts are as great as anywhere in Portland, their European pastry offerings shine among the best in the city. The staff are friendly & thoughtful, and the atmosphere is cozy and welcoming.I stuffed my face hole with their pink champagne cupcakes and some croissants, and you should too!?
Delicious products with a lovely service. Plus they will soon be celebrating 100 years since they open up!.Trust me, they have quality in their cakes, brownies, cookies and bread. All with great flavors.
I would advise to go to a local baker/bakery. At Helen Bernhard Bakery, it isn't about you, and they do not care if they lose your business... I know it is just cake, but I am planning my wedding, and Helen Bernhard Bakery made the experience unenjoyable. They were rude with each phone call, and they were not helpful when asking which cake fillings flow better with which cakes. I thought "hey, it's just cake", but when I asked to speak to a manager since I was being charged $60 more than what the price showed on the website, the manager was there, yet refused to take my phone call. I find that quite rude. Again, local bakers/bakeries would love your business, and they are much sweeter (no pun intended ;) )
Yesterday, January 27th, I had the good fortune of running into my favorite bakery in the world, Helen Bernhard’s, to get a tasty treat for a special co-worker who was going on maternity leave. I was amazed at the especially beautiful cakes in the display case and was informed that it was National Chocolate Cake Day. One of the local TV stations was scheduled to film a segment but due to a major police happening the film crews were not available so it was cancelled. What a loss that Helen’s didn’t get the exposure they deserved. I purchased one of the fancy cakes to share at work and every single person just had to know where I bought it. It was a light chocolate cake with the most delicious creamy fudge between the layers, a hard chocolate icing and beautifully decorated. It sounds like a lot of chocolate but it wasn’t overkill by any means and everyone thoroughly enjoyed it. I think I even dreamed about it last night. Thank you all at Helen Bernhard’s.
