Where to even start?! The owner, Marco, is a piece of work. We went here for a nice evening since we were visiting family, ordered three dishes, and found a cockroach COOKED in one dish and several hairs in the second dish! When we brought it to our server's attention, she took the dishes away and said she would speak to the owner, Marco. She then came back over and said that Marco said he would look into it but we still had to pay for the food. Wait... what? Of course, we would be happy to pay for the food. That was the point of going to a restaurant, after all. We just didn't want a COCKROACH and HAIR in it! So, I asked to speak to the owner directly so we could resolve this quickly and still have a nice evening. After waiting maybe 15 minutes (there were maybe 3 other couples in the whole restaurant) Marco came over and was immediately defensive and started talking about how he would be happy to serve us other meals but we had to pay for the ones we ordered. He was so rude and immediately acted like we had cooked the cockroach in pasta! It was unbelievable. I'm speechless. I have never been treated this way, especially at a hole-in-the-wall restaurant where there are homeless people outside. All we were asking for was clean, edible food. Nothing else. Needless to say, we left and won't be back. So disappointed in this place but more in the owner. I can't believe people support this place. Who acts like this?

Was looking for dinner in the area and came across Gildan.I find good, traditional Italian food is hard to find in PDX so I'm always up for checking out a new place. The meals were a little pricey for the portion size, roughly $20 for spaghetti with 2 meatballs. The meatballs were quite good, the sauce was excellent, and the pasta was prepared well.I wouldn't hesitate to go back!

We love this place amazing service great food, my wife order veal and I always order the special of the day and is always delicious!

The experience was INCREDIBLE! The food was delicious, the wine was amazing, and the waiting staff was so personable! Nick, our waiter… AWESOME. Made my fiancé’s and my Valentines date fantastic and we will be back for sure!

really cute italian restaurant! the food was good and the service was excellent. really recommend if you’re looking for a new spot to take friends, partners, or family!

I ordered the appetizer that included scallops, prawns and calamari. Excellent flavor! Great dipping sauce with “artificial” scallops! There were 2.5 prawns, some white fish cut into semi-circles - “artificial scallops” in mostly a calamari appetizer. Amazing. When I brought it up to the server, he took my plate to the kitchen and returned to say that the white fish pieces were scallops.Great food, misleading menu.

I really wanted to give more stars because I know the bad service was mostly related to them being understaffed, but even taking that into account, it was still considerably bad service. It took 30 min after being seated for someone to take our order (and that was because we finally caught someone’s attention) and 50 min after being seated for our food to come out. The waiter did end up telling us everything was on the house but it took another 30 min of waiting to get his attention just to get our check/confirm that that was still the case. Food was great but I don’t think it’s worth the bad service. Super unfortunate that this is a product of the labor shortage going on right now. We went on a Saturday night so I would recommend going on another day/night when it’s not as busy and the staff that is there isn’t overwhelmed.

EDIT on 12/27 - Gilda’s did contact me last week and refunded the cost of the meal, and owner Marco replied to my Yelp review. Again, great food and service (until we received the check). Just a disappointed that it took so long to get sorted out. VERY disappointed in Gilda’s, the owner Marco Roberti, server Mikey and bookkeeper An. WATCH your bill $$. After excellent food on 11/12, our table provided cards (split the bill in half) in the bill payment folder. They were returned to us with receipts that were higher than our order. After reviewing the receipts, we saw we were billed for salmon and other items that we did not order (our table had 4 pastas and an appetizer). When we let the server know, he agreed with us that the charge was incorrect, however the other party (charged for our lower bill had already paid and left) and he apologized profusely and assured us we would be credited with the full amount of the charge (a free meal) for the mix up, as he said he could not rectify the erroneous charge that night - the accountant would need to do it the following Wednesday. He blamed the incorrect charge on the point of sale system, which seems unlikely - it appeared to us to be an honest mistake by the person charging the charge - accidental switching of cards and bills. The credit never came into mine or my friend’s bank account. My friend then spoke with someone on the phone and she was provided a credit for her erroneous $96.75 charge (she was actually charged TWICE so received a credit of $96.75 x 2). I then spoke with the owner Marco Roberti on the phone, emailed him a photo of the erroneous receipt/charge, and he assured me the bookkeeper would review. I received an email from the bookkeeper An asking me what I had eaten that evening (2 weeks prior) and she said the server validated that I was charged the correct amount (for the 3 high top table - we ate at the 4 seater normal table just to the left of the door). What?! I looped my friend’s email into our thread (outlining the issue) and requested to have someone (An or Marco) call me. That was 2 days ago. NO response. I will join Yelp specifically to provide this negative review and will call my bank on Monday to dispute the charge. It’s a real shame, as the restaurant is cozy, the food is great, and the server was nice (until after we left and he did not ensure the issue was rectified). We even gave him a $30 tip each, so $60 total because he was so apologetic and flustered about the mix up. Shocking that it’s worth a bad review and all of the time on the phone and email for less than $100.
