A local coffee shop. I choose them cuz their beans are the best! And it's walkable to my house and they have treats for my dogs.
staff is nice and the service is speedy. no complaints there at all. that being said, i wouldn’t say there’s much worth getting here except some of the toasts. the espresso doesnt taste like much, and i wouldn’t be able to distinguish the flavor as ‘chocolate’ for their mochas unless specifically told so - pretty bad. ive tried ordering it a couple times in hope that they’ve modified the recipe, but nope. the lattes are fine, though, if a little bland. very spendy, but not terribly unusual for portland
Only spot in Portland that I know of that serves Onyx Coffee!Their baristas are also fairly chatty and nice to talk to—a solid spot in the Sellwood area to get some coffee.Very cute 6oz cups, too!
Such a cute coffeshop! The plants helped with the laid-back atmosphere!
If you want specialty coffee and interesting flavors and a great atmosphere, definitely check this out. Onyx coffee! Out of Arkansas? I haven't heard of another shop in town using that, and it was every bit as amazing as I remembered. I appreciate that they have an espresso blend for those who want the more chocolatey traditional notes, and a single origin (Ethiopian today) for those who want something to pop. I guess I'm falling into the cliche that the other Ben below mentioned, although I can't tell what he's actually trying to say, but they do oat milk expertly well. If you're a fan, you know they're not all created equal. This is on my fave block in Sellwood.Cappuccino was a bit more of a cortado size, and I'm really happy it was. The fruity notes popped super hard. Best capp I've had in a while! The barista was a great communicator, super approachable, and made us feel welcome. Thank you for curating the space with great flowers and lots of beauty. Can't wait to come back.
Decent espresso drinks and standard fare pastries (not made in house). Normally this would be a 4, but considering the selection of surrounding cafes, there are a select few that have better coffee at a slightly more competitive price with even tastier pastry selections.
There is a parking lot with two hour parking for customers in addition to street parking. About 15 or so seats with table space. Could study here as there is free wifi.I got a hot chai and a zucchini bread. Both were very good! Chai was a LITTLE sweet for my liking, but I get my drinks half sweet always (and chai you can’t ask for that specification bc of the nature of the drink using chai concentrate).4 stars because it was especially warm/muggy in there, seemed a bit under-kept as I came in around 12:30pm after morning rush. However, I’m not sure this happens often. Overall, cool little spot!
So much natural light! Also the coffee was amazing! Had a Ethiopian Cappuccino. They know their coffee well.
100% confused at the rating on this place. I always order the same thing when I get coffee, an American: espresso and water. The espresso is flavorless. The website says this a roaster, not a roasting tool in site. I also got a pasty which was stale and overworked. The other pastry I could see was over proofed.I am not a passive consumer. I have worked in bakeries and coffee shops up and down the west coast. This one star rating has NOTHING TO DO WITH THE SERVICE.The employees were sweet and quick. Lovely interaction and the industrial vibe is cute. But the Product was so underwhelming. I love well executed coffee and this ain't it.
