Great atmosphere, delicious drinks and yummy food! Drinks were fun and all the food we got were made so well. The fried chicken sandwich is one of the best I've ever had; the chicken was so moist and had a great crunch on the outside. The tea leaf salad is crunch on crunch on crunch and yet different types of crunch from the cabbage to other things I'm not able to name. The taste of the tea leaf salad is so unique, you need to try it to understand how yummy it is. The nachos were delicious as well with fried wonton skins instead of tortilla chips.Service was great and I loved how they made my drink. I asked for non-alcoholic and she asked how I like to lean with citrus, fruity, and other descriptors. I chose citrus and let it be a surprise. I was delighted with my drink!Highly recommend coming here for a fun night out!
Met the owner and had a lovely chat. The fries that everyone talks about combined with their curry ketchup are the truth. The nachos are unique and well portioned for two. I did like the cocktail menu, but what made the experience was their bartender and the atmosphere. A great date night, thank you Expatriate team!
Personally not a fan of really loud music but the food is good!! (Especially the fries!!!!!) THOSE FRIEDS THO, MUST HAVE!! The chicken burger is good, noodle is ok. And my friend like their cocktails :)
Really great craft cocktail bar....depending on who's mixing. If Mike is behind the bar you'll enjoy some of the best cocktails in Portland. They spin cool vinyl records which is a perfect fit for the funky vibe of this joint. Go for the drinks. I haven't been happy with the food but I just read they've added a spicy chicken sandwich that is considered the best in Portland. I need to try this.
And after 10 p.m., the thing to get is their Expatriate Nachos, which are wonton chips with Thai chili cheese sauce and lemongrass beef
Excellent ambiance via candlelight and record player but when I ordered the nachos, I didn’t love them. It’s not because they’re bad it’s just that it was too rich from the wontons instead of tortilla chips to the lemongrassy salsa it was too much but I appreciate the idea and perhaps next time I should try something else on the food menu. The cocktails were excellent!
Every time I find myself in Portland I go out of my way to grab a drink and bite here. Always a great time, super fun team, and lovely space. Get James Beard fav sando, always a great!
Visited Expatriate after seeing they had the best burger in Oregon. The entire experience was lovely. All of the food is delicious and the cocktails are perfect. Will definitely be back next time I'm in Portland!
One of the few places in Portland where you will consistently receive top-notch service in an incredible atmosphere. Props to the management for creating a setting where everyone works as a team and seems to take pride in what they do. The cocktails are expensive but worth it and the James Beard sandwich is special.
I really love this place. Atmosphere, music, food, drinks. We met an awesome couple sitting next to us at the bar and had a great conversation. That’s the kind of place it is. It’s busy and sometimes has long waits, but it’s worth it in my opinion. Wonton nachos and fried chicken sandwich this time. Plus a bunch of cocktails - each one was delicious. Getting there at opening (5pm) helps I think.
