Finally tried out the dimsum under new management. Haven't been here for a while since before covid and then the previous restaurant named closed out. Dimsum was pretty good I would definitely recommend. Also containers are newer , food are morepresentable and Instagram worthy now. Would coming back for sure.
Service are ..okay? I guess… and the manager will stare at you, while you are eating. I was like ???The main point is I think the food are really really normal, like, I don’t even know why I don’t just buy some frozen dim sum and cook by myself.Their pork ribs and red rice roll are pretty good but the red rice roll are greasy, and one order have a lot of red rice roll, typically I will expect around 3 roll. And the price are not pretty either. I can just keep going on and on and on.Only good thing is this is a Cantonese restaurant as you expected lol.
The food is a 5 for me, di sum was comparable to some of the Asian places I had visited in the past. Come hungry.Service is relative to where you sit and time of day, come during busy hours, the dim sum cart would likewise be busy and may occasionally miss your spot.Pricing is a bit on the high side but don’t mind paying for quality & tasty food once in a while.
The food was good, but as the only white folk around we got lowly treatment. We were kind and considerate to all staff while there. Sat in the very corner in front of the emergency exit we had to ask for carts to come to our table. And got eye rolls when we flagged servers down. When we paid we were overcharged considerably. In the moment we just assumed we missed something, but did the math in the car on the way home. Keep track of your dishes yourself!
Everything tasted exactly alike. Everything was fried in some sort of deep, greasy oil and I got a little sick from eating. I was at home, so I threw everything out, $70 worth of food thrown out. All the good reviews must be hired. The food was really bad. I had fried shrimp and the dough was raw. The fish was fried on the outside, raw dough in the middle. I had some kind of peas, tofu and mushrooms all swimming in grease. I had some kind of sesame chicken (?), no flavor at all. The boiled rice was fine, lots of it and the tea was good. I had some kind of dim sum, all no flavor, exactly alike. Really awful.
Dim sum here was good. You don’t really need to order food. They will bring those food on cart and you can pick up easily, which makes the service really fast and efficient.
I think we were overcharged. We went in for some dim sum. There was no menu, no pricing. We assumed each item would be $5 max. We ordered 11 items total. Our bill came out to $78 which is steep for dim sum. We just assumed they increased their prices but when I got home I looked at their dim sum menu online and it is only $5 per item so yes, they did overcharge us. Pay attention to your bill.
The food tastes great, but they give small portion sizes and their food costs slightly more than other restaurants. I saw the waitress measuring how much soup was in one of my orders. The seafood might not be fresh due to the fact that the alive seafood was cramped inside all in one water box looking sad, and lifeless. This also means that they are involved in animal cruelty which should be a huge violation and is unethical. Knowing that their seafood is not fresh, their other meat may not be fresh as well.
As some background, I'm a stickler for authentic Chinese food, which means I care mostly about food taste and don't lower ratings b/c rude waiters (in fact, rude waiters are part of the authentic Chinese food experience).Food was ok, there is definitely better dim sum nearby. Fried items were terrible. Triple was bland and watery. Black bean ribs were ok. Duck was good except for a few dry pieces. Not enough cart staff, so wait times are quite long.IMO there is just better options in Portland were you don't have to wait in line for.
If you missed great dim sum in Portland, it's found at this restaurant. Used to be Wong King. I was craving dim sum and so glad to report this find. We ordered chow fun also.Soooo good!
