Definitely a diamond in the rough. Perfect example of 'don't judge a book by it's cover'. This restaurant has eluded my attention for decades. Thankfully, I tried it & it blew me away, all aspects. Starting with the interior...beautiful & such a kind, welcoming group. The chips & salsa were fresh & perfect. The margaritas (on the rocks) were delicious. I'd been a loyal patron to a well known Mexican restaurant in the vicinity but after this one experience I believe I won't be going back or anywhere else. El Sombrero's food quality, quantity & prices beats the competition, hands down! Muy Buena!
The service is always excellent. The food was great. They have the best enchilada sauce. Our family loves to go there.
Best Mexican food I've had in a long time, great service, too. They still use whole chilis for their chili rellenos, which scores big points for me these days! Yum.
True tastes!! If you're really looking for real Mexican food just like near my hometown near the border of Mexico, this is the place you need to go to. Spicy fresh salsa, be sure to order a side of the guacamole it's homemade and fantastic. I had the carne asada, steak, tacos with rice and beans and the meat was super tender and you make how you want them to be with all the sides. Their margaritas are solid and well made, and the beer is ice cold I know cuz I tried both :-) if you're not looking for authentic tasting Mexican food don't come here cuz they only do it the right way.
Menu had a wonderful variety to choose from. We choose our favorites. And the dinner was delicious. The service was 10 stars. Location was meticulous. This is my new go to spot when in Portland.
Happy to serve should be their name. Dynamite food and impeccable service. Always nice and clean and the atmosphere is kinda cosy. Have one of those mango margaritas with a shredded beef enchalada. Yum!

The food was ok, it was a little bit cold when I got the food, but probably bc. It was a lot of people. Service was good, really nice people. Place was clean. And prices same as the other Mexican restaurants.
So good- I don’t think I came up for a breath. Service was great, and server was friendly and attentive. The only real problem was: I wanted to try everything on the menu.
