We celebrated our anniversary here and I'm glad we did. My cocktail was delicious, our appetizer just right and the meal was... is iconic too intense to describe a meal? Well, it was iconic. I want to dine here for every anniversary and life event, forever.I really appreciated the attention to detail that the staff provided. Our experience was perfection. Thank you for the lovely meal.

We arrived about 20 minutes early and checked in, and were told it would be “a few minutes” so we initially waited in the “lobby” eventually asking if we could wait in the lounge, and were assured we’d be called when our table was ready. We waited about 20 minutes past our reservation time before checking back with the host. It was clear he had forgotten us, and so now that he remembered us, we were were seated at a tiny table in the middle of the floor. First, the bar didn’t have sufficient clean flute glasses for my Bellini, so it was served in a regular wine glass. No big, but knowing drinks are about $20 a pop, I naturally expected stellar service. Employees were friendly, but both Old Fashioned and margarita were horrible. Literally undrinkable. Finally, after inquiring about our reservation, we were seated at a tiny table in the middle of the floor. We ordered two appetizers, the Diablo shrimp and the crab cakes. Diablo shrimp is spicy but lacked any other flavor whatsoever. The crab cakes were on par with Sysco crab cakes we’ve had elsewhere for far less. We ordered a T-Bone streak Oscar and the medallions Oscar (filet with Dungeness crab and bernaise sauce). The well-done steak medallions were cooked properly but just didn’t taste good. The t-bone, ordered medium well was rare in the center and not tasty. We didn’t eat the bulk of our food, and not a single person asked if we liked it or what we thought about the food. We walked out with a bill of over $400 and were sorely disappointed. With so many top notch restaurants in Portland., we will definitely eat elsewhere in the future. If you want an amazing Filet for less, try Feast 316 in Camas. Beat steak around, hands down.

Best rib eye ever! Get it with the el goucho topping. The steak tartare was super yummy! Wicked shrimp were delicious! The French onion soup was to die for! Dip the bread in it! Also: Smoked sazarac!

It seems that every city has a great steakhouse that’s been there for at least 20 years. One that's still packed every night and still turns out the best food and best service a steakhouse can do.This is a world-class dining destination, for sure. The food is impeccable, but the whole ambiance and vibe of the place is the biggest standout.Think open concept, low lighting, cozy booths, an unbelievably great live Spanish guitarist in the corner jamming out the whole night... it is an ultimate night out.I’ve mentioned the food a couple of times now and while the many different table side demonstration preparations are amazing... the service... with their ability to anticipate needs was some of the best I have ever experienced.

I went here for dinner. I had the pork belly app. It was great. The shrimp and crab cocktail. Also great. The bread they served was also great. The waitress was very nice. And the Steak Diane came with a flaming show at the table and was also very good. I would go here again for sure.

El Gaucho is always amazing. We have been going here for 30+ years and never once have we been disappointed. The attentive service and phenomenal food cannot be beat! I highly recommend The El Gaucho experience at least once in your life!!

First of all, I dined here a few months back for my uncle's birthday. It was my first expensive dining experience, and I can say for a fact that they did not disappoint. The service was amazing. Every question was answered with no hesitation, and we were never without beverages. Secondly, the food was astounding as I have heard from others before my visit. My steak was topped with lobster and was most definitely the most delicious thing I have ever eaten. I definitely recommend because of the atmosphere and the overall attitude of all of the employees. I look forward to returning hopefully in the near future!

Probably the worst meal I have had especially for the price $280 lobster mashed potatoes was Disgusting not even sure why they put them in a to go box absolutely no lobster at all maybe it’s ground upIn the nasty sauce. my 47 dollar Supposed to be medium rare steak was even worse have had a better steak at outback for way less ? only thing that was decent was the garlic bread and Caesar salad which I also spent $17 per person on some lettuce and Caesar dressing which is probably the best part of the entire meal besides the bread. I have eaten at way better places in Portland for far cheaper.

Unfortunately, I am disappointed - I had higher expectations of this place.I had a steak, which was good, nothing that was out of ordinary but solid. Risotto was unfortunately only okay, it was lacking the distinctive taste, it felt more like an oatmeal. I definitely had better here in Portland. My partner's chicken was not good at all, especially given the price tag. Baked potato was good - but seriously, this is a baked potato, so nothing special here.Overall, I felt the place is way overpriced for what you get. I've been to expensive restaurants, I enjoy good food, especially I enjoy paying a lot for outstanding food - here we paid a lot (280$) but were absolutely disappointed. The service was a little on the arrogant side as well. We did not feel comfortable.Overall, there are amazing restaurants in Portland that serve you a way more delicious food, something that's just extraordinary for less money.

The food and service never disappoint! The steaks were perfectly cooked. We recommend the lobster mashed potatoes and grilled corn for sides Wonderfull evening!
