We were attracted by the southern food menu rather than the oysters and the food was great. Its a pretty casual place but the service was good and prices very reasonable. We shared a small plate and then had two entrees and a bottle of wine and the bill totalled 70 USD. More than happy yo recommend this place.
Stopped at this spot for happy hour dollar oysters. Although there were not dollar happy hour oysters any more like some website I found had said, they did have a dozen for 20 bucks which is still a really good deal. Did I mention they were really good freaking oysters? Our server was nice and took good care of us as well. It was a lovely day to sit outside; enjoy some beers and slurping up that ocean goodness. If you're an oyster lover like I am this is a must stop.
Staff was super friendly! Oysters were really dank served with freshly made cocktail sauce. Great price too! They have one dozen for 24 bucks! They also had a nice selection of absinthe served traditionally!! Definitely am coming back!
I’m going to have to come back for happy hour to try the oysters but the Poboy was good. Nothing too crazy but a solid choice for grabbing lunch
Great Cajun food!! They are one of the few OG restaurants in this neighborhood since it started gentrifying in the 2000's and is still going strong due to their excellent food and cool vibes. I recently had the barbecue shrimp for the first time, after going here for years and never trying it, and it was awesome. I typically get one of the Po boys.
Great music and vibe. Best of all the food is on point. This is Hoppin' John's with Chaurice. Beautiful.
I used to love the live brunch set on Sundays. This is one of the best and most affordable places to get raw oysters. They keep a good variety & staff is well informed about their selections. Aside from the oysters, I have encountered some serious inconsistencies with the cooked food. I come in often & at different times. I have gotten cold food a few times & pretty sure I have gotten beans that were held 1 day too long. When the food is good, its great, but I'm not always sure it will be.The saving grace is definitely the oysters bar and the drinks. They make a mean sazerac and a delicious hurricanes, perfect for sharing. This is a fun spot in an awesome neighborhood. Great area to walk after eating and welcoming to families and pets.
We really wanted this to be amazing and it was just... not. We understand staffing issues due to COVID and are understanding when things take a little longer etc. However, nothing was right or good about this restaurant. Welcome: 20 minutes to be greeted; they didn't have our requested bottle of wine (nor did they say they were out of anything when we asked questions), and the bartender didn't know how to help us with their bubbles list. The service was average at best. The oysters were shredded and had shell debris in the meat. They were out of key menu items; the food was all cold and a couple of the dishes were overcooked; the mac&cheese was so lackluster that we ate 1/3 and left the rest - how do you mess up mac&cheese?? Our bill for two was $122, so relatively expensive for the quality of food and service. We may give it another shot in a year or two due to the atmosphere and menu potential, but we definitely will only be dipping our toes back in rather than a full meal.
Eat: An Oyster Bar is one of my favorite restaurants in Portland. I highly recommend trying their Hurricane. Great service, food, and drinks!
With the holidays in full swing it can be a little daunting at times. As I was driving home from work I decided that I was going to stop and treat myself and myself alone to some oysters. Well let me tell you is the best damn decision I've made this season. Fresh Puget sound oysters we're definitely what the doctor ordered. I seated myself right in front of the shucking station so I could be privy to all the action, I'm from the coast so I like watching people's technique when it comes to shucking. They had a good selection so I went with a two dozen, plus a wonderful garden salad with roasted beet and topped with blackened catfish.Gotta tell ya I was completely satisfied & worth every penny! If you have a chance swing by and revisit an old favorite in the hood or maybe you're visiting for the first time. I can guarantee you won't be sorry.
