Brunette lady is on the drugs? I had a very weird experience at this place. The brunette skinny lady on the window (owner?) was very weird and rude. I had a doordash order, money was taken, my name was there but she didn’t give my order, and when I surprised she yelled at me very rudely and she said “nothing I can do! Call doordash!”I tried to explain myself at the window and she acted like a brat and she ran inside the store. I was still there and trying to understand what’s happening and than she came and yelled me again.“I’m calling the police!!!”That was the weirdest night of my night. Luckily doordash gave me back my money but she was very rude and weird. I suspect she was on to drugs or something
If I could give zero stars I would. This was the worse experience I have ever had period. I have worked for restaurants for 10 years from the lowest man up to a general manager. I would have never ever spoken to a customer the way the guy did to me.We had our office order put in 4 orders for a total of 5 sandwiches and of those only 1 order with 1 sandwich was made. When a person in charge came to the window he said there was nothing he could do to help and we would have to call doordash to cancel our orders.I showed him we had our confirmation and money taken out, he said there was nothing he could do. I offered to get a piece of paper and write all of our orders down for him to make, he said he couldn't do that. No sir you didn't want to do that it would have been no issue to take the order, take down our conformations numbers, and call doordash at a later time to make sure it got into your systems. You do not treat your customers like that ever. Non of us will ever go back to this place.
I wish when ordering there was a better description of the difference between tall and long. Because I wasn’t impressed by the soggy sourdough bread. I wanted an Italian sand which, not sourdough. Also the side of potatoes were not fully cooked and hard. For a $30 meal, I expected much more out of the quality and service. When ordering, the woman with black hair had a weird attitude. It was raining so my boyfriend went to the window and grabbed our food. But even with my phone number and name, she made a big deal about it. We didn’t know. On the website it said just go up to the window and call. I’ve always loved this place but the employees usually are so rude it’s disappointing.
The owner responding to reviews on here needs to seriously tone it tf down. You are making it so personal telling people to goto subway and hang out with tweakers if they don’t want to pay 20+ for your sandwich. Any potential customer reading these rude comments in a form to defend yourself would not give you a try. Be professional, honey catches more than vinegar.
This is the best place to get a meaty or vegan sammich. The sandwiches are jam packed with deliciousness. Alicia's vegan cookies are AMAZING and a must try. They are an amazing team brightening Portland one customer at a time. I will forever remember their attention to detail and the note they left of my sandwich while I was writing a 15 page essay for class. They really helped me get through the last 5 pages. I will never eat at a different deli as long as I live in Portland, thanks you for the motivation Charlie's Deli!
There's no denying that the sandwiches are excellent, but this is not a sandwich shop for the hungry working class...it's expensive. Like REALLY expensive. If you want to treat yourself to a great sandwich, prices be damned, then check this place out!But if money is tight...try elsewhere. Portland has no shortage of great sandwich shops.

Absolutely useless staff and service. They’ll accept orders from 326 different apps but nothing by phone or in person. The problem with that being that if the apps aren’t working they aren’t capable enough to take a simple phone order. Useless and disappointing
This was over 5 years ago and I am in transfer processing my reviews over to this account from my other private email that now I want super private.Until this day, Charlie in my optional is still a good man, he made seem too confident and you know what, the guy has gone through a lot so give the guy a break. The Best Vegan sandwiches in Portland. But it's not just the sandwiches that is great but the communication and exchanging of enjoying of knowing someone and making the right decision for myself of having a good experience at Charlie's deli and become friends. Ali and Charlie are always discussing making our experience as the customer even better for everyone. Personally, I'd see a man trying to make the people of Portland happy. I'm very happy with my judgment on choosing to eat at Charlie's. There are some awesome people that work for Charlie and once you enjoy the first sandwich or many sandwiches, you will see why Portland needs Charlie's Deli. Come by and you will see smoked brisket being cooked in front of the shop and eyes. Will you like fresh-made sandwiches? Then why are any of you here by now? Good selection of beer if you are into IPA, Lagers, etc. Dessert is also provided if you love cheesecake or bacon caramel.Response from the owner 5 years agoKeiki, it's been a pleasure having you at the shop over the last several weeks… Months really! It is these kinds of relationships that attracted me to delicatessens in the first place, and I am glad that we have gotten to know you! I'd say see you Monday… But I am sure we will see you before that! Much love and respect :-)
Walked down there in the pouring down rain with my boyfriend late late at night...when we got there we were soaked and we called the number that the window said to call and the rude lady on the phone said that we had to order online and she wouldn't take our order over the phone!!! We sat in the rain and tried to order online...we ordered 1 club sandwich and the sub-total was over $24! What a joke! We left immediately and ate somewhere else!
