Noisy, understaffed and mediocre food (kahlua pork sandwich)
Everything was great from food to cocktails. You gave to try the Beastro Margarita! Yummy
I was a bit underwhelmed by Beastro. The spicy pork bulgogi was pretty tasty, but the appetizers -- Korean Corn Cheese and Calamari were duds. The Calamari came looking like fish sticks and had lots of breading and very little re-formed calamari. The drinks were quite good however, and the staff were pretty responsive. There was one person for both tables and bar when we arrived (early -- around 5:30) but as the place filled up another waiter came on, and service was good.
Inside Hotel Vance, is Beastro. Opened by NFL star Marshawn Lynch, whose Filipino roots, along with Hawaiian chef Kevin Yamada and co-owner Jun Park have created a unique menu of Korean stews and street food. The cocktail program, created by Yanci Violi, is extraordinary in its presentation and diversity, incorporating many Asian flavors such as Ube and Sesame. The ‘Purple Drank’ is, in my humble opinion, a cocktail worthy of its own review.Koloa Dark Hawaiian Rum, Orgeat, Ube Extract, Demerara, and Fresh Lime. Sprinkled with coconut flakes and garnished with dehydrated lime.Ube, a gorgeous purple hued Asian tuber, commonly found in Filipino cuisine, has the distinctly sweet flavors of vanilla, white chocolate and coconut.Add to that the sweet almond essence of orgeat, cut with lime and add coconut flakes for texture, and it’s a splendid cocktail.Beastro bartenders make the extracts and syrups in house, so be assured that you are getting an epic cocktail here.Pastry chef Helen Nguyen creates some playful desserts on the menu such as the “Taste the Rainbow” macaron, filled with mixed berry compote and lime and served with a side of Skittles (Marshawn Lynch loves them).Featured:?Army Base Stew Budae-JjigaeKorean-American fusion noodle dish made from umami-rich broth, Korean hot pepper, kimchi, spam, beans, sausage, and mushrooms.?White Cloud(Banhez Mezcal, Coconut, Green Tea Infused Agave, Toasted Sesame, Yuzu, Egg White.)?Lychee Blossom(Big Gin, Lychee, Shiso Leaf Infused Vermouth, FreshLemon, Bubbly)?Purple Drank(Koloa Dark Hawaiian Rum, Orgeat, Ube Extract,Demerara, Fresh Lime.)?Island Old FashionedPendelton Whiskey, Pandan Infused Demerara, Plum,Aromatic Bitters.
We went because of Marshawn Lynch, would like more recognition of him. Desserts were not as good as dinner.
Dinner was amazing. We started with the wings which were so delicious and I had the pork belly and my husband had the short ribs. Fantastic. The only disappointment was the lack of dessert. They did not have any - overall it was a great dining experience and we will be back!
The restaurant is attached to a hotel and isnât super big. The staff was really friendly but to put it nicely, they didnât really know what they were doing. We waited around 30 min for them to take our order and they forgot/ got some of it wrong The service was just really slow despite it not being busy. They also only took card which is fine but that is not disclosed anywhere online. I did read a few bad reviews but decided to give them the benefit of the doubt and regret itâ¦hopefully it was just a bad night but I donât think I would go back.
My girlfriends & I set a reservation prior to attending a nearby musical at Keller. When we got to the restaurant, they were busy. We waited for someone to greet us we walked in but it was taking a while so we walked up to the bar & noted we had reservations. They said they didnât have any reservations, even though I had a confirmed reservation. They found a table to seat us a few minutes later. It took 20-25 min for anyone to come by for our drink/food order. We decided to order all at once in case it would be a while. The drinks & food took quite a bit more time to get out. (We were a group of 4.) Thankfully I scheduled the reservation 2.5 hours prior to show time as the dining took 2+ hours. The drinks were great (however I ordered the same thing twice & it tasted completely different both times) & the food was good. The staff was really nice as well. They were likely short staffed so we still tipped well. I would likely visit again, but would only do so if I didnât have anywhere to be. Overall an ok experience, but I do hope they work the kinks out with time.
Location was great. Food was decent, it had a nice twist on the food combo. I like the mochi waffle, but they lacked the staff that could have made the experience much better. They had a waitstaff walk out in the middle of a rush and the only server was running around a bit flustered. It was an experience but may not want to come back unless they hire more people.
Service was a bit slower than I had expected. Could be staff shortage?!? Food was good. Could have a few more vegetable options (salad, sauteed veggies, etc).
