Food is great. Interesting and different. Service was dismal. Our reservation was for 7. We were seated by 720 which wasn't a big deal. Timbers game and busy. After being seated, we had no service for over 20 minutes. I literally walked across the street to the grocery and bought 3 bottles of water as it was hot and we were uncomfortable. No one around to even request water. Finally placed our order and half of our food came out prior to our drinks. We requested that no more food be served until our drinks came out and were told it didn't work that way. I finally told our pink haired server that it was a special night (my wife's birthday) and we would really appreciate if they didn't ruin our evening. Service improved (moderately). Ultimately the good mood we arrived with was completely destroyed. We left on edge and irritated for what should have been the cherry topping an otherwise perfect day. Yes it was busy but the place was not understaffed. The staff just didn't care and it showed. We have enjoyed take out from bamboo and looked forward to having them be apart of a special day for our family. They failed miserably. As a result, we won't even get take out again. Despite really enjoying the avocado on fried rice, green monster, and king salmon nigiri. We will patronage establishments that instead appreciate and respect their patrons. Huge thumbs down!
I got seaweed fried rice (if i got name correct, pictured) and green machine roll. Overall quality of food was good, but not that special. I think you’re paying for the location. Spent $30 + tip on the two items, and don’t think it was good enough to justify the price. I should note my friend got sashimi and was quite happy with the quality
This is a trendy restaurant aka it’s busy and crowded and getting a seat can take awhile. Like back in the Before Times. If you can get past all that, they have really fresh, delicious sushi. A lot of care goes into the food and preparation, and the servers and staff are working hard.
Amazing little spot with excellent service and delicious sushi. Their salmon was super fresh and our server gave us great suggestions. Came back twice during our stay in Portland.
Don’t go here if you want to actually eat fish. There is very little fish in the dishes they serve. They add a lot of extra stuff to them and give you a teeny tiny piece of fish. Don’t get me wrong, it didn’t taste bad, but it just wasn’t worth the money.
The food is really good… but sushi is really hard to enjoy without soy sauce, ginger, wasabi, or napkins. Stayed in a hotel close by twice in the past year and BOTH times they didn’t bring the condiments that make sushi… sushi. Either they just don’t care, or it’s a cheap ploy to save money since the customer already paid.
Food was OK, everything was fine untill the sashimi was brought.Let me start by saying I know my fish and my steaks. They gave me raw mackerel instead of stripe bass.I asked the server to confirm with the chef and she INSISTED it was stripe bass.2 stars for the old bait and switch. Oldest trick in the book. Dont get the 45$ sashimi plate. Mackerel is under 2$ a pound.
You expect, hope for good sushi. Sometimes you have a favorite place and you get what you hope. Sometimes with a recommendation from a friend you find your expectations exceeded. We had an amazing roll. You can see it circled in my pic. We love the Big Island and see the kanpachi farms, they had it on the roll. Basically a California roll with kanpachi and dill on top. Outstanding. And our drinks.... amazing and beyond the norm. I am hard to please when I spend money for things I can prepare, this was beyond what I could do but it won't stop me from trying, and I am.
Service is good and fast, interior is nice and well-designed. Chicken karaage is good and juicy, the 15th street roll is fairly ok but the fish is fresh. Usually you would expect more layers of tasting of the roll but not in this one. The two made us disappointed are the spicy salmon crispy rice and king salmon sashimi.Crispy rice pieces are too hard and overcooked. King salmon 5 pcs for $18 are fresh but too expensive. You can feel the very obvious tendons like chewing something, which is not a experience you expect to have by paying this price.
The fish was fresh, the interior was pretty, and the service was fast even though it was busy. It's a great date night spot. We ordered several items, including the chirashi bowl and the ocean farmer roll. You can really taste the sea!
