wonderful Italian food. if you're in the Fremont Street area of Portland I would highly recommend this well established Italian place. Delicious food and very prompt service.
Wonderful neighborhood spot for delicious food! A spacious outdoor seating area and friendly helpful wait staff make for a lovely dining experience. ???
Very disappointed with our recent dining experience. Our family has been a loyal Amalfi's customer for 20 years. On our recent visit we were served waters in big blue Pepsi to-go cups, and our food mostly on paper plates. For many years, the menu was extensive, with at least 20 or more main course options that were Amalfi's signature dishes. Family recipes that were mainstays to this long-time restaurant. Not any more - i saw about 6 non-pizza main course options. The quality of the food served had also left a lot to be desired. I could go on and on, but the bottom line is we are saddened to say we are not returning. We had many wonderful meals there over the years, and it used to be a reliable semi-upscale neighborhood dining experience. Credit to our waiter, he was he was great, upbeat, and kind. He was a bright light in an otherwise disappointing Amalfi's experience.
So disappointed. We called early and were told "no reservations needed for parties under 10." However, when we arrived, the dining room was full and we were directed outdoors. We were not dressed for outdoors. We sat for 3 minutes discussing whether or not we should leave. I remembered a quality dining experience in the past, so I encouraged my companions to stay.We were subjected to live music we didn't really enjoy because the sound system was over modulated and the band was too casual about their performance. My sciatic nerve does not enjoy hard picnic table seats, and the party next to us was so drunk they were screeching laughter over the sound of the music. My party couldn't even have a conversation. We wasted at least 5 minutes trying to figure out if we needed to order through their online app (register your email first? While hungry?) or should we approach the window? We finally approached the window, waited in line, and then a nice fellow explained it was "either, whichever is easier." (Does anyone find that app easier? Maybe if English is your second language...)So we got our order in, which was cool, but then the desert came first. We laughed about that, ate the desert before the entre. The Sangria I ordered was way too full and I spilled it on my eating surface. At one point a woman in a "Amalfi's family" shirt came and explained that the short staffing means she does better with outdoor seating than indoors. Some of us were seasoned veterans of restaurants and understood this to be a management issue.I was so disappointed I'll never be back. One problem? Okay. But all of this? Sorry, folks you've lost a long time fan.
Really good food, great service. I liked their take on the old fashion. It was a really busy night so it took a little bit for the food to get out. But we weren't starving and it was worth it! Kiddo #1 created his 'meat lovers' pizza. Kiddo #2 ate the spaghetti w/meatballs and I had the lasagna.
We've been going to this restaurant for over 20 years and will not go back again. Paper plates and plastic cups at fine dining prices. Ridiculous. Used to get bread, salad and spumoni with your meal. Nothing comes with meal now, and the prices are higher. Service left a lot to be desired. Nice enough servers, but we had to ask, sometimes repeatedly, for what we needed. I really expected more and am so disappointed. Won't be back and would never recommend.
This place is amazing for food and the ambient lighting makes for an amazing dine in experience. Definitely get the garlic cheesy bread. Drinks here are great! Only complaint is staffs engagement levels and checking in on us felt like we were ignored for a while but other than that it was great!
Delicious food. Friendly staff. Large portions at a fair price. Warm and casual neighborhood bistro with a fancy date night feel. Family owned and operated (3rd generation) since 1959. Portland history with a side of wonderful!
What has happened? This used to be a great community place to get quality Italian food. They were out of manicotti at 530. What I got looked like and taste like a lean cuisine. Did this change management? Covid? Please write back so we can know if we should ever go here again. So sad and disappointed.
5 stars for the nostalgia, 4 stars for the pizza and 5 stars for, well, just cuz. I've been a customer since I was born, 1972. The pizza can be smelled at my house, 1/2 mile north, on warm summer nights. I wish there would a skoosh less dough. Other than that it's my emotional go to pizza. If you KNOW about the clock, then this place is special to you too.
