The fish was delicious! No complaints there.A little disappointed in the greens. They were the chopped bag kind and placed in a tiny melting plastic container. Definitely needs styrofoam so ppl don't get burned.Yes the wait time is long but it's because the fish is made to order.
I was expecting more of an English-style fish and chips experience when I walked in the door, but one look at the menu told me I was going to be in for a different ride. And not in a bad way! Sure, cod was on the menu. But tilapia, salmon, catfish, and basa are also on the menu. 2-4 piece baskets are available, and also an on-a-stick option too.I ordered the 4pc basa basket, with potato salad, and a Coke. I had never had Basa, so I was excited to try it. Soda is all in cans, and when I grabbed mine it wasn't very cold, but it wasn't room temp so that was fine with me.The food took about ten to fifteen minutes, as there was only one lady working and I had one order in front of mine, and despite my being given a number the last brought it out to me at the table, and then when requested brought me a bottle of tartar. Excellent service. The first thing I noticed were the four good sized pieces, likely fillets, of fish, in a southern-style breading, I think it's called New Orleans style. I saw the good portion of potato salad next, and the surprise coleslaw after that. Then I noticed there were no fries, which upon review I probably would have gotten if I'd not ordered the potato salad. Oh well.My first bite of the fish I'm still salivating over, now 12 hours later. Tender, flakey, yet melted in my mouth, with the crunch of the breading... I practically inhaled the first half of the fillet before adding tartar. Maybe it's the breading, or the fish, but even with a generous dose of tartar I could barely taste it.The potato salad was very good. I'd daresay homemade, and very straightforward on the recipe if so. It would be a celebrated addition to any summer bbq. The coleslaw was fresh, but to me lacked both seasoning (salt) and the hint of sweetness I find in almost all of my favorite slaws. All told, I enjoyed my lunch, and I'll definitely be back for more, since I still have more fish styles to try!
We had the cod and fries - freshly cooked, hot and very tasty. Thanks for a yummy lunch.
I've been driving by this tiny, unprepossessing place for some time, and today I finally went in and ordered the Junior meal with cod. It came with two sides - I got hush puppies and mac and cheese - with coleslaw. Everything was top notch. There were eight large pieces of fish, perfectly cooked in a really nice cornbread batter that stayed crisp on the ride home. The fish alone was worth the price of the meal. The coleslaw was fresh, crunchy, not soupy; the Mac and cheese was al dente and flavorful, the hush puppies were crispy, not greasy, with a pleasant bit of green onion flavor, and the tartar sauce was thick and tangy. I'll be coming back soon and recommending it to all my friends. They had many lovely looking desserts I can't wait to try, and I'm all excited about the shrimp and the fish sandwich, too. So excited to have found such a delicious, locally owned place! Go! Now,! Eat!
I own a small cleaning service and we always drove past 42nd Ave Fish and Chips and was curious to try them out. Well today was that blessed day because we had enough time in between jobs to take an hour lunch.I tell you they did not disappoint!! The fish was perfectly breaded and fried to a golden crisp, the fish was plump and moist, and the french fries...OMG... all I can say the chef can COOK! The dessert cake was AMAZING, moist and decadent! I tell you what, I am always going to stop by and support. I am a new loyal customer forever!
Trying to support more local black owned business and saw this spot was one of the most popular fish & chip spots in the area. Called 30 minutes ahead to place a pick up order, when I got there my food was not ready and I was told it’d be out soon. I wait patiently for a few minutes and a group of 3 walks in and places an order for dine in. Not more than 10 minutes later they’re getting their food brought to their table and I’m still waiting while more people start to come in. There are a few of us waiting at this point so after 15 minutes I go and ask them when it’ll be ready. Again I was told that it’d be out soon. I wait another 10 minutes and am starting to get noticeably impatient and just start standing by the front of the register watching them since nobody else had ordered anything for a while. The older man in charge that night saw me and told the two other younger workers to get my food ready and it came out in 3 minutes which I very much appreciated but I haven’t been back, nobody likes their time being wasted especially if I’m going to order ah as, I might as well have just ordered when I got there and maybe it would’ve come out quicker.Got the 3 piece catfish basket with a side of Mac and cheese and honestly the fish was mostly breading, kinda like a fried pork rind with very minimal meat as the catfish pieces were very thin before being fried. Mac and cheese was good but a little cold. Love eating soul food but you gotta give a sh$t about the people who want to support you
Get it. Worth the wait time. I get take out but dined in recently. As usual customer service was great. The music was perfect and I really enjoyed myself.
I really like the relaxed atmosphere at this Fish spot!! The Music Service and menu is all 100 !! I will be there often The Family Meal is the best deal for my little family !!! All around I give 42nd fish n chips a gold 5 stars!!! Keep coming back at the end of the day it’s worth it…
I love going to this place Sundays after Church So Good I love the Basa and Mac n cheese and I always get a dessert to go ??
This restaurant has the best fish and chips I've ever eaten. The potato salad was to kill for as well. The owner is a very polite gentleman. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone. 10 plus stars for this establishment.
