We went here back around Valentines day 2022 with some friends. When entering the place smelled like a barn, to find out that it was the charred fish skin. Every plate was sub par and we all agreed that the wine did not pair. The dessert was like something from 1990 and was not good. Total per couple with a tip was over $500 and we were sorely disappointed. I gave 2 stars because the service was great. We do not understand who is giving this place these high ratings they must be mostly fake. Remember to only read the bad reviews, this time I went against that and will never do that again.
While the service was exemplary, and the food âinterestingâ, I had expected the food to be phenomenal. It was not. For a meal that costs about an average car payment, the food SHOULD be the most memorable, but unfortunately the main course consisted of very tough beef. The staff was polished and made the evening a nice experience. In the end, you can have two or three really nice meals at other local restaurants for the cost of one at the Painted Lady.
What a lovely place to have a romantic dinner! They are very knowledgeable about the wines they carry, and the food was delicious and original. Although each fixed course is basically a taste, overall, it was a lot of food. The cheese, dessert, halibut, and Asian-style soup stood out for us. Although we should have asked, the meals can be slightly customized, but no one told us that. It would have been especially nice to have been asked if the steak course was cooked to our liking right as ti was served rather than after we'd eaten half-- it is very rare. All in all, it doesn't disappoint if you love variety and chef's choice-type eating. The house was a bit hot at times due to the summer weather, and they ended up closing the next evening. However, the staff was extremely accommodating.
A true gem in the heart of Willamette Valley! The food was spectacular and the wine pairings were perfect. In an era where many restaurants are short-staffed, the staff was top-notch and focused on the smallest detail--all with ready smiles. If you are looking for a world-class meal, this would be my recommendation. Wonderful.
We were so sad that our dinner at Painted Lady was such a disappointment. We had been years ago- and we brought 2 friends visiting to try it out. The service was good, the ambience charming-- but the food was mediocre at best for the price and type of tasting menu they offered. It felt like the kitchen is trying to cook above their ability. Several dishes just seemed disjointed and didn't work together. The salad had no seasoning, flavor and didn't work. The halibut was dry and over cooked and served over a carrot puree that tasted just like baby food. When we mentioned the fish was overcooked they apologized but did not offer to fix it. That's OK, because had the fish been cooked perfectly, the carrot puree ruined the whole dish. There was one course that was amazing-- but it was followed by disappointments. I think there are better places to go for fine dining in the Willamette Valley- and most certainly in Portland. If you are a true foodie, you may be underwhelmed by the food here.
Food and wine pairings were delicious. Great service. Pretty room.
Not our first visit, We are from Florida but we always come to the Painted lady or a visit to Ali. It is of course extraordinary expensive but itâs a one time deal for us. Really disappointed in one thing no white tablecloth on the tables had an appearance of a diner which was somewhat disappointing. White table Cloths should always be associated with the $500 +dollar bill that was a disappointment
The food was delcious and artful! It's a delightful relaxing escape!
From start to finish Painted Lady was fabulous! Every detail was perfect. This is my number one place to celebrate in the world!
Wonderful food and experience
