Imo the best fish and chips in town! Other places you might get a good piece of fish, the chips are bland or the slaw too soggy but here everything was great! The fish is really good (we had the cod and tilapia), hand cut chips and the slaw was super tasty. On top of that, the owner is super friendly and humble. He suggested we try the catfish and yes we’ll be back!
Batterfish reminded me of one of my favorite aspects of living in Portland - even "simple" work is executed with craft and care. That passion elevates the products that we're known for. Jay brings that same excellence to fried fish. It's terrifically tender, and his fry technique with fresh oil and no frozen foods left us feeling satisfied for hours without any of the regrets that normally accompany fried food. Can't wait to work through the menu!
The gluten-free fish and chips are incredible! I have had lots of gluten-free fish and chips throughout the years, and this was definitely the best I’ve had! Generous portion sizes and so tasty. The owner is also super friendly and nice.
They just added vegan fish & chips l and WOW is it good stuff. The curry batter they use for the tofu compliments the vegan tartar sauce wonderfully and the chips are just right. Plus the crew and the owner are all friendly and delightful. Definitely check it out!
Wonderful food! Hadn't had catfish in a couple years, so I stopped in with my partner to try their catfish sandwich. Very good service, and I was delighted to see that the folks who used to work at Char were still there as well. We used to visit Char a few times a month to treat ourselves and liked the employees - Looking forward to carrying the tradition forward with Batterfish and trying more of their menu!
Important to note this restaurant is run by an Irishman who opened it on St. Patrick's Day ☘️. Important because the Irish KNOW fish and chips and are lovely to talk to!

The Cod was a good sized portion. The fish was flakey and tasty and the batter was delicious. The chips were top shelf!

The shrimp tacos were also very good. Well seasoned and great flavor.

We will be back to try other items ... Looking forward to try the dishes with curry!
Just finished fish and chips, fish tacos. and cole slaw and we loved it! Owner clearly takes pride and it shows. Especially loved the Baja fish tacos. Def will come back!
Stopped in because I'd really enjoyed Char, the place that had been here before & was happy to see some of the same cooks & menu items had stayed. Wow, the fish & chips were great, the crispy light kind of batter and chips that are *real potatoes*!!! There's malt vinegar (as there should be) & on the night we stopped in, we got to sample the fish sandwich (kitchen misfire) as well as the spicy catfish. Both were off the charts awesome & the owner is super friendly. They were having fun in the kitchen & you can taste in the food when someone's happy to be cooking. This place rocks. The house-made hot sauce will make your tongue slap your forehead to get some more.
By far the most authentic fish & chips in Portland.

Having been to several excellent fish & chip shops in Ireland and the UK , I find myself often disappointed by American chippers. Oil-drenched fish and mushy, frozen fries seem to be the norm on this side of the pond, and as such I leave most of these locations unsatisfied.

When you order a plate of classic fish & chips at Batterfish, you get the real-deal; a large chunk of fried cod over a platter of fresh, hand-cut fries. The fish is crisp and the fries taste home-made. It's everything you want in a fish & chip shop, and I will definitely be returning whenever I crave a genuine taste of the British Isles.
Had a craving for some fish and chips and I wanted to try a new place. Looked online and decided to try this place for lunch on a Saturday, I drove here from Oregon City and when I got there they were closed. Every other cart in the happy valley station was open except for them. Their website said they were open, I double checked online while I was there to make sure it wasn’t my mistake and it said they were open but they weren’t. I have been a chef for 30 years and I don’t care how good the food is if you don’t run your business with professional service you are going to fail. Not even a sign up for an explanation. Too bad you can’t leave zero stars!
