I would like to start with saying how prompt the front end was with seating us(table for 2) at 7pm on a Friday night! Along with the ambience I give a big 2 thumbs up. However, that’s where the praise stops. Reading reviews praising the “purple rice” and the “ Best Sushi I have ever had” led us to pick pure. It seems the purple rice is a gimmick to lure people in and an excuse to inflate the price. The rice as expected was typical rice, although the texture was lackluster. We ordered the firecracker and the Victoria rolls. For not being starving, I would have sent both back! The sauce with the Victoria roll was reminiscent of a very basic spicy mayonnaise (not sure if that was the intentions at all), the roll was all rice and filler with very little actual fish on top( if you call that fish)! The firecracker was the even worse. I will typically eat it not to waste food however, this wasn’t something I would feed the homeless! Saving grace was the pan fried noodles w/h chicken. Very tasty, good sauce, ratio of ingredients was spot on and was enough for 2. Coming from AZ, a 4.5 star rating from 514 reviews, it being so close to the coast had my expectations very high. Overall bang for your buck and taste left me very disappointed.
I love this place! It's very cozy and modern. The sushi is made with purple rice, it's so beautiful. The green tea is delicious, not bitter at all. Their menu is extensive and has everything from bento and teriyaki to sushi and miso. The price point is moderate, as should be expected from a restaurant that serves sushi. I can't wait to go again!
Loved the vibe and everything about this restaurant. Quality seemed quite good and my mother enjoyed her food thoroughly. I, however was very thrown off by the taste of the purple rice and had to send my roll back. I could see how some people might really enjoy this flavor but it wasn't for me. It would have been nice to be warned about before ordering such an expensive roll. Fortunately, they were very accommodating and removed the roll from the bill without blinking an eye just felt bad wasting the food.
I thought we might have to grade on a curve for an inland sushi spot. But this was one of my all time favorite sushi places. And we have had sushi all over. Black rice added to white rice makes the overall blend purple which is cool. The atmosphere especially downstairs is very nice. The wait staff were friendly like everyone in Eugene. Definitely will come back.
This restaurant was everything I had been wanting when it comes to beautiful fresh fish prepared by a seasoned chef. The Marbled Tuna was absolutely incredible. It was reminiscent of butter and just melts in the mouth. The salmon nigiri had a very soft and fresh texture, and I even ordered Uni, which I don’t normally enjoy very much but it was also delicious. A wonderful experience!
just celebrated our 10 year love, and 8 year marriage anniversary, and 10 years of dining at this amazing restauraunt!! its always very fun and delicious, and their new location is so wonderful!! looking forward to many anniversary dinners to come!!
Had a fantastic Valentine dinner. The basement is very cool and we loved the soothing aquarium. All the food was great. Had creamy scalloped hand rolls - arguably the best I've ever had because the were slices of large scallops vs tiny slices. Wait staff was terrific and very attentive. All in all, great food and great setting.
This place resembles an old speak easy. The setup is absolutely gorgeous. The sushi here is amazing. This was our second time here and we will keep coming back. The staff is also very friendly.
I have lived in Eugene for 19 years and never went to Sushi Pure because I wasn’t impressed with the entry and assumed the sushi would be mediocre. I finally went with friends who insisted and I was pleasantly surprised m. My bar was low, and I found the decor and bi-level space to be cramped and a bit dated but was clearly “hip” at some point. We found a booth downstairs with a view of the beautiful huge fish tank that is the central focus of the room. I only ordered veggie tempura and a 6 piece of salmon sashimi, but here is where the 4 stars come in. The salmon was wonderful. 6 fairly large slices of wonderful melt-in- your- mouth salmon serve on a sea stack of grated daikon radish, it was the perfect compliment to the crunchy light veggie tempura. The service was great- fast and attentive. If only this place moved into a modern space or a place with interesting decor, I would give it 5 stars for my food experience. Still, good for run down Eugene. The prices are moderate. Those cash strapped may find it expensive, but sushi is complicated and expensive in general and this place is actually very reasonable for portions. In all a good deal and a perfectly acceptable place to grab sushi and feel happy about it.
Great food and ambiance. Cocktails super too!
