Aside from the food, which: YUM; the #cocktails are AMAZE. #EUGthings
This for was incredible!! Best Thai food I've ever had. I had the spicy cashew noodle. They all what level of spice you want so you can have it perfect. I loved mine. My friend has the curry and said it was delicious.
We began with Pockets of Love, the best appetizer you can get. They melt in your mouth. This time my husband had an Avocado Curry and I had the Teriyaki Chicken. The meat was so tender. The fresh squeezed lemonade was so refreshing. Finished off with a little Sassy Cupcake dessert. Thanks to my sis and brother-in-law for the birthday gift certificate. A lovely present.
This was our third, and likely last visit to Sabai. First of all, getting a seat is a “process”. One calls for a reservation whereupon you’re informed of your 90 minute table limit. Once you’ve arrived, you get to wait outside, under a tarp until your entrance is approved. Once you’re at the table, wait staff will be there. Really. They will. They have to be, you’ve only got 90 minutes! Now to the actual food and drink. If you can possibly negotiate a way to stay in the bar, do that. The craft cocktails are among the best in town and the bar food is really good. Very nice Chicken Satay, good Tempura Green Beans—overall a great bar. As a matter of fact, the bar got Sabai the only 2 stars they deserve. Our dinner was a complete disaster, as it had been on our previous visits. We’ve given up on dinner done right at Sabai. My Partner had Thai Teriyaki Chicken. I swear to you, the Teriyaki Chicken at Panda Express is better than what she was served. FAR better! The veggies with her entree were roughly chopped and undercooked. Her rice, as well as the meal in general was barely room temp. I had the Indian Curry La Primavera and for the life of me, I can’t begin to tell you why. This dish is a complete mess. It’s a selection of excellent flavors from different cultures that simply don’t work. The dish tastes like curried noodles, which is essentially all it is. The Pancetta and spinach were honorable mentions at best. It’s not a great presentation, looking a lot like Tripas or Chitlins. The handful of chopped parsley and green onions thrown on top did nothing to improve either the look nor taste of this stuff. Mine came out of the kitchen at room temp as well. Our waitress didn’t really like the answer when she asked how everything was. When we told her, she huffed, clammed up, didn’t offer an apology, a talk with a manager or a complimentary desert from the VERY limited desert menu. That’s probably good though, bringing us a desert would have certainly thrown us over our 90 minute limit. Three words for Sabai; Pick someplace else.
Nice location, when we checked in we were told we couldn't go in unless we agreed to a 1.5-hour seating. Hat was really awkward, but we didn't expect to take more than an hour. We joked the 1.5-hour time and how they could have placed a timer on our table...Very nice ambiance, comfortable seating and fairly attentive service.Hot & Sour thai soup was outstanding and unexpected, teriyaki chicken was really good.
Amazing customer service! Thank you Kevin! Also you can’t go wrong with any thing on the menu!
Thai cuisine with a great atmosphere, chic and cozy. The food is excellent and the staff will take great care of you. Lots of gluten free and vegan options available on the menu. This is the Pacific Northwest but if you order your spice level hot they mean it! Table space is limited so expect a short wait if you don't have reservations.
I'm new to the area and when asking friends for recommendations, both highly suggested I dine at Sabai. Even though the restaurant was very busy and short staffed, I was seated quickly without a reservation. My meal was fresh, tasty and exceeded my expectations. The wait staff heard me mention today is my birthday and then surprised me with birthday cupcakes. Thank you, staff of Sabai for making my birthday so special!
I ate dinner for 2 at Sabai in Eugene. I ordered their version of a mai thai cocktail which was quite tasty and my dinner companion had a non-alcoholic cocktail which she loved. We shared the tempura green beans and a papaya salad as appetizers. The tempura green beans were excellent with a thin, crunchy coating and flavorful green beans. The papaya salad was good with some nice spicy notes as part of the fresh salad. I could have done with more papaya flavor in that salad, but maybe decent papaya's hard to come by. As my main I had the spicy cashew noodles which were also excellent. Simply presented and with a deep flavor profile, I'd highly recommend those noodles. My dining companion had a red curry which she also enjoyed.
I LOVE the food here! Great drinks, friendly staff, and just an all around great experience every time!
