Wow! What an experience. Typically when a restaurant offers a large menu it can be a red flag with few items tasting well. McKay cottage restaurant is an exception to that rule of thumb. They have a large menu and every item tastes AMAZING. I have yet to have a mediocre plate.Awesome variety of brunch drinks / cocktail / coffee cocktails etc. They serve coffee from Thump as well (:
This beautiful...experience was a once in a lifetime find on the road. Words will not do it justice. The staff love working there. You can feel it in the unique structures and taste it in the unusual and delicious food. Everyone is happy to be there..even as they wait for their tables. Know it got very busy as we narrowly sqeezed in easily between breakfast and the lunch rush. Do not miss...yet go early...and enjoy.
What a great place to have breakfast! The service staff is VERY friendly and welcoming. The coffee is delicious! The food... OMG, it's delicious, fresh and portioned for people who are hungry. We were seated in the back are, I call it the Library.
Ordered takeout on a seemingly busy Tuesday at around 1130. Upon reaching the host's statin outside I was greeted and helped right away. I ordered my food at the bakery register inside and waited maybe 10-15minutes. Food was fresh and delicious. Big portion! Cinnamon roll was tasty!!!Accessibility: I believe there was a ramp, but it is inside a house, so maneuverability of a stroller/wheelchair would probably be a little tight.Parking: limited, accessible spots available on the lotSeating: indoor and outdoorOptions: drinks, breakfast, brunch, lunchStaff: quick, kind, helpfulRestrooms: not sure, did not visit themAtmosphere: homey, busyAnimals: service animals for sure, not sure if pets are allowed in the outdoor seating.Kid Friendly: sure
Charming atmosphere and really good food. We loved our breakfast especially the pancakes. Very generous portions and super friendly staff. This place is consistently wonderful and always a favorite with visitors and locals alike. You will never be disappointed at McKays.
We found this small restaurant searching Trip Advisor. It is rated as the number one breakfast place in Bend. When we arrived it was super busy. They took our name and told us to check in with them in 30 minutes. Since it was cold and raining, and their porch waiting area was full, we waited nearby in our car. 25 minutes later we checked in and were told that they had already called our name, getting no response, they moved down the list to someone else. They told us to wait another 10 minutes. Not wanting to be missed again, we waited on their porch. While on the end of the porch we were shocked to see a tray of cornbread or muffins next to piles of dirty dishes and silverware, containers of dirty water, discarded food and other unappetizing sights just outside the entryway to the tent we would be eating in. Already unhappy with the extended waiting, we decided the place was not following proper sanitary protocols and decided to leave. When asked why we were leaving we explained seeing the piles of filthy dishes next to food. They claimed we were mistaken. We were not. It was disgusting.
There is a good reason this place is always busy: the food is delicious! I arrived on a Friday morning and it was busy, and they were able to seat me quickly. The servers offered helpful suggestions. I enjoyed the hash with homemade hot sauce on the side. The house jam was so good I bought a whole jar. The historic architecture adds another level of interest. So good!
Great eggs Benedict and French Toast! Such a great find from the bustle of downtown Bend. Be early or be prepared to wait a while for a table.
Talk about yum! This place has so so many offering and all so very good. The Baja Chicken Hash is a home run. So many different flavors that all come together so nicely. Definitely recommend that one. The Mt Bachelor Omelette is a big dish with good flavor as well. The scones and cinnamon rolls are also a must try. For drinks thier coffee with a little shot are all so good to. Enjoy!
Highly recommend McKay Cottage! They were super accommodating and set up the fire pits for us so we could eat outside. We were seated within 10 minutes of getting there (even during brunch rush) and were served hot drinks immediately. The food was prepared quickly and was delicious. They even brought us blankets to keep us warm! Staff were all super friendly and we had a truly great brunch experience.
