This and Ariana are hands-down the best eateries in Bend. Exceptional service and the food.....feels like something that would stand out in civilization, so for Bend, it's otherworldly. You know a restaurant is great when the only bad reviews are cheapskates!

We had Omakase here and it was excellent. The staff were very attentive and the chef was wonderful. We'd love to come again the next time we're in town.

Such fun! And each item was amazing

The usual exceptional experience. Professional service, the comfort of perfect miso soup, excellent sushi rolls, and endless hot water refills on the green tea. Again and again worth the visit.

Kanpai is our favorite sushi spot in bend and forever will be.The staff treats us incredibly well and we feel like “regulars” although we only come every few months. If you get the chance, order the surf and turf!!

A great spot for sushi nestled on Bends Westside. Fresh fish and great tastes that have a local flair. Three food was great with above average service. Pricing was as expected for quality of ingredients. Cocktails were prepared with fresh ingredients. Atmosphere is mildly upscale and well behaved family friendly. Parking is kinda challenging at times. Reservations recommended.

The flavor combinations were perfect. Nothing extraneous, perfectly balanced and elegantly finished

Incredible Dragon rolls, and the Yakuza roll was awesome too. Pork belly ramen was rich and flavorful. Washed it all down with a carafe of cedar-infusrd sake, all while observing the chefs preparing meals behind the bar.Totally fantastic place for a birthday dinner date.

Awesome experience! Ended up here last minute with some coworkers and we all left extremely satisfied. Some of the best sushi I've had, and the wait staff was impeccable. We ordered the Kanpai, Dragon, Spider, Hanzo, spicy tuna, a couple specials, and a few other rolls I'm forgetting, and not a single piece of food was left.

We were reluctant to sit chair to chair next to strangers at a sushi bar after the COVID restrictions of the past 18 months. But after a great meal at Kanpai in Bend, we asked ourselves "why did we wait so long?" You'll find Kanpai 1/2 mile west of downtown Bend along a lively commercial street. The restaurant is busy (just what you want if you are looking for fresh seafood) and you will need to make a reservation with a $15/person credit card deposit. We enjoyed everything we ate. Starting with a warming bowl of miso soup and surprisingly spicy broiled green lip mussels. The vegetable and shrimp tempura arrived as a large plate expertly battered veggies topped with 3 colossal prawns. We thanked our waitress for recommending the Hamachi Crudo that had 8 thin slices of tuna dressed with a sweet/sour vinaigrette and topped by Marcona almonds. Our $49 sashimi combo contained 3 large chunks of five different kinds of fish. My wife is not a big fan of raw scallops, but she enjoyed all the others. We revisited the high-quality fried foods at Kanpai and received a plate of excellent calamari rings and tentacles instead of ordering dessert. Their calamari was topped with a few slices of fried lemon and jalapeno pepper for some added kick. We were not the only ones that enjoyed this dish, this judging by plates of calamari flying out of the kitchen. This is not conveyor belt sushi, so expect to pay higher prices for this freshness and quality.
