Updated review. Placed order online. Arrived when I was told it would be ready. Place was empty and they said it would be at least another 25 minutes. Food finally ready drive home and 4 of my mozzarella sticks are just a fried outside shell with literally no cheese on the inside. And the Alfredo pepperoni pizza was so spicy no one would eat it. Will not be returning
Update 4/2022. Still a cool locally owned place. Family friendly pizza parlor. Good location. Good service. Good food. Overall good......I really enjoyed backyard pizzas fresh ingredients, clean family friendly atmosphere, and good service. Cool place to go after work for a beer or enjoy the excellent happy hour till 6 with drink and appetizer specials. Food was great and everything was fresh made and delicious. Prices were very reasonable and great selection of pizzas and sides. I'll be returning anytime I'm in the mood for good pizza and fun atmosphere.
My friends and family used to be regulars at Backyard, but this great neighborhood bar & restaurant went downhill very fast about 3 years ago. Just prior to Covid. Not hiring enough staff, food was cold and the pizza was either wet or burnt, lucky if you got a beer in the first 15 min of arrival (even sitting at the bar). We switched to the Northside Bar. Well today, I went back to the Backyard this afternoon with an open mind, hoping it has gotten better. Nope, two bartenders, wouldn’t look me in the eye when I ask for a beer, scoffed when I asked for a second one after waiting forever; there was about 10 people in the whole bar. And the pizza was burnt on the bottom and cold when it got to me. The two ladies sitting at the bar next to me said the service is always terrible and they only order a cheese quesadilla because you can’t screw that up. I don’t know how they stay in business. Terrible food and Worse service. This used to be such a great place!
Margherita pizza was good when hot. I had the last piece 20 mins later, it was wet and just ok. Service was horrible and slow. I didnt get asked if I wanted another drink and I never got a glass of water that initially asked for. The wings weren’t hot and had too much sauce. To leave, I had to close up at the counter as the server never came back. My experience was messy and disappointing. I probably won't go back.
Last week I ordered online as I wanted to try their Gf pizza. I placed my order and was called to say they didn’t have GF crust so I cancelled my order. No problem. Now this week I call and tell the girl about the week prior and she says they have GF crust so I say cool, I’ll place an online order. I place my order and within 5 minutes she calls to tell me they don’t have Gf crust. I ask, “so why when I called before you didn’t look to check and instead let me go through the whole online ordering process?”. Her response was a lazy, “yeah my bad”. I said, “well that’s f’ing ridiculous” in an irritated manner. She laughed and hung up.***UPDATE*** Two days later and here I am contacting my bank having to dispute the charge for the pizza I never received. Worst customer service especially for a place I have never got to actually eat their food.
Ordered a couple pizzas for pickup to take home. One was a taco pizza. The restaurant was only half full and there were plenty of employees, so no COVID short staffing issue on this occasion. The taco pizza comes with cold toppings in a separate box to assemble when you get home. A great idea, if properly executed. I watched as the gal was cutting up avocado. She put stuff in the separate box, stacked it on the pizza boxes, and handed them to me ....while the other person who later proclaimed to be the manager was on the floor clearing a table or helping someone (an important point later). I got home and the toppings box only had lettuce, tortilla strips, and avocado. There was no salsa, sour cream, or tomatoes as there was supposed to be. So, I jumped in my car and headed back. Meanwhile, my wife called to inform them of the problem. She was told those toppings were in the box (moment #1 it was implied we were lying). She told them they weren't, that I was on my way back to get them, and that they should offer to make it right by making us a new pizza so we aren't eating a cold one when I got home. She didn't curse or demean. She just told them they needed to make it right. Apparently that counts as being "rude" because she "took a tone." I got there and they looked at me like I was a nuisance. The only words spoken to me were "it'll be a few minutes" in a "rude tone" ironic. So, I sat and waited patiently. They finished, handed it to me, and I said thank you and walked outside. Ten feet outside I checked and, again, no tomatoes in the box. I go back in and advise there are no tomatoes. The girl that put stuff in the box told me she put them in there (point #2 when it was implied I was a liar). She looked (digging her bare hands through our toppings) and found no tomatoes. She goes and grabs some tomatoes, puts them in the box, and walks away. I look at the woman still standing before me and say "the least you can do when you get something wrong a second time is apologize." Those were my exact words. She started me in the eye and said "But it wasn't wrong." (point #3 when it was implied I'm a liar). Did I erupt? Yea. Admittedly I did. I can own my fault on this. Unfortunately, I'm the only one to do so. She continued to insist it wasn't wrong as I walked out the door. Meanwhile, tough guy pizza chef is walking out the back door as though he wanted to get tough with me in the parking lot. I get home and, after basically being told I'm a liar, felt it was necessary to talk to a manager as one more chance for them to apologize. It seems the gal that told me "But it wasn't wrong" was the manager. During our call she tells me she checked the first box and it wasn't wrong. No, you were on the floor and I know for a fact she didn't check it. In fact, SHE was lying to ME. She then says the second box wasn't wrong. I again have to point out the girl looked in the box and realized there were no tomatoes and put them in there after I pointed it out. So, during the call she's STILL calling me a liar. As if I have nothing better to do with my Friday evening than try to scam a restaurant out of a literal handful of chopped tomato. Amazing. Never, ever, EVER go here. They have no accountability to their customers, will fight with you (maybe literally if tough guy pizza chef has his way in the parking lot) and imply over and over that you are a liar, all over about $1.00 worth of toppings. Worst management style ever. Oh, and the taco pizza? Meh. Not bad but nothing to write home about. Worst experience I've had in Bend in years, maybe ever.
Delicious pizza. I had the buffalo chicken, wife had pepperoni/pineapple, and the kiddo had a cheese pizza. Beer was good and my wife enjoyed the specialty drink. It took about 20 minutes to get the mixed drink (think the gal that took our order forgot about it). Other than that it was a wonderful place for a drink and some pizza. Glad they were family friendly too!
It’s fun to watch the employees make the pizza through the glass partition, and the service we received from Heather was great. Fried pickle spears with ranch were especially tasty. The decor and drink selection is a little haphazard, but this would be a good place to kick back with a beer and watch sports.
Awesome pizza, great place to stop by after work or get food to go. Perfect for brunch too!
Awesome lowkey spot to avoid the crazy touristy downtown scene on a Friday. We were served by Heather and she was fantastic, super attentive and friendly. Pizza was great, we got the Mamas Spicy Alfredo (chicken was a little on the dry side) with a side of what I believe was house made ranch (delish). This spot also offers a solid local beer selection. We’ll definitely be back.
