We came in because we'd heard it was good. I had the oysters and chips. Oysters were overdone, and the breading was not very good. Fries were unsalted and didn't taste good even with salt. The shrimp salad in the middle of the plate was wonderful. I guess we're back to driving to the coast. It wasn't great, but the owner got back to me, and I should have addressed my issues on the spot. Except the waitress didn't check on us. I probably won't be back, but others have been pleased. Just be sure to be vocal with any issues.
I love this place and eat there monthly, even when it was takeout only during the pandemic. Two months ago we went in around 4pm with 4 people, so we can sit at the beautiful table in the front. There was a couple glasses that needed to be bussed, but the waitress said we would have to sit elsewhere. We sat in the back, the service was substandard and the food was excellent. Today at 430 we went with a party of 4, sat at the table in the front and the waitress was eyeballing us and rude from the time we sat down until we left. Short with us ordering, tossed the plates down and exited before asking if we needed anything else. Never offered to refill my water. Everyone in our party was disappointed in the service. The food was excellent as always and the fries exquisite.
Why this place has such a high rating is beyond me. If you’re in Albany and can try something else, please do. Had family that recommended and they may be disowned.First, the atmosphere is eclectic which is cute. With that said, if you have that much decor than you should employ staff that will dust/clean it instead of standing around talking to one another or in our case today, were more interested in tik tok than checking on their paying customers.Next, we ordered a 2 piece fish meal that came with fries and salad combo. All of which were placed on the same small plate when served. The fish we both would have enjoyed if it were not sat next to a watery salad and made the bottom soggy. So soggy I didn’t eat the second piece. I enjoyed the fries but my husband thought they were too greasy. Guess we’ll chalk the fries up to personal taste preference.Ultimately we would not come back nor recommend to anyone we liked. Too bad for Albany as this has been a long standing business that appears to have been dragged down hill badly.
Everything was great! It didn't make it home in time for any photos. Captains platter with a sampling of all the fried foods, chicken strips, and clam strips.Ordered take out and the food was hot and fresh, ready for pickup about a half hour after I called. Inside the restaurant reminds you of your typical coastal town seafood restaurant aesthetic.Fish tanks, fishing nets, and maritime decorations dotted in every corner. Expect to pay 12-24$ a plate (small, medium, large servings), but thats to be expected for the best seafood in town.
The lighting and environment are beautiful.I ordered the shrimp pesto pasta. The pasta was prepared very well, but the pesto sauce lacked flavor.
I’ve been driving by this place for years and finally decided to make the trip south to Albany and give it a try. I guess the building is a former Trailways bus station. Love the interior - kind of an antique store look to it. As for the food it was great. I had the medium seafood combo - fried oysters, cod, shrimp, and bay scallops. My wife opted for the cod. Both meals came with shrimp salad and hand cut fries. We both had beers, very good Pilsner and Amber Ales, from a local brewer, Deluxe. If you like fried seafood in a cozy, “step back in time” atmosphere this is the place.
An eclectic dining experience when you first walk in you meet in the face with a tiny little hole in the wall where the waitress or waiter will ask you to sit wherever. The restaurant features a lot of fish and chips so if you want scallops they're fried. But once you sit down you notice all the little trinkets on the wall and it's pretty fun attractions clean and waste staff were a nice enough.
We love there clam chowder and their shrimp salads are to die for.
I've never tried it so I decided to stop for lunch with my partner. She enjoyed her plate of fish with salad and shrimp. I had the chicken strips and we both shared fried cheese. It was good and the service was great. While I don't eat seafood, I'm willing to try many places in an effort to support local businesses. I like the decor and atmosphere. The men's room was clean. I shall definitely return!
I didn't order any food. I needed to get back to Eugene from Albany after my ride and I had a falling out. I had 4 dollars and a dying phone. The girls here were so sweet, let me charge my phone, use the bathroom, and gave me water. Very kind people and welcoming!
