The hostess was so quiet and mumbled to where my husband and I couldn't understand what she was saying. Apparently, we misunderstood her when we followed her as she wandered off to the kitchen. She rolled her eyes when she came back out and we weren't where she left us. We nearly walked right out at that moment.Thank God Christin was our server. She was so sweet and thoughtful. She saved our first impression of your restaurant. Hire more like her!
Food was good. Nice portions sizes. Chips and salsa were good. Seated quickly on a busy Friday night. Service was great!! I had the spicy fajita beef burrito. Very good! And spicy!! Would recommend and will revisit.
The service was slow but they were pretty busy so kind of understandable. We had to ask for water. Finally someone brought chips but even after asking for water, we had to wait another 10 minutes. By the time we actually got our meal we had eaten all the salsa and chips and were too full to enjoy the dinner. The food is very Americanized Mexican food so nothing special. It's okay but not worth a second visit.
Better hosting service. Better instruction from management.
beautiful scenery of different animals great enchiladas
I’m a RN who works way too much close to Mexicali Restaurant. On my bad days I treated myself for lunch as take out from this restaurant. I’ve been eating here for approximately a year. The last month I’ve been charged differently by different staff. Today I was told they were charging for a separate bag for the to-go items. When I looked at my receipt I was charged 2.5% for a to go order x 2. I called to talk to the manager - Paul- he was crazy, abrupt, conformational, and hung up on me before I could even tell him my question. I called again to talk with the owner. He sadly told me it was him. Again he was conformational, angry, and stated, “ look Lady these are the prices and deal with or go some where else!” I was in shock and disappointed as Mexicali Restaurant was my place to go and find a little happiness with good food. But Paul if your the owner- u sadly lost a good paying customer and I hope things get better in your life. As a owner or manager - you should always be in control of your emotions and find a happy median with your customers. I have 3 people who will never there again. I will not either and I hope your able to cover your plastic bags.Later today I was able to speak with another manager whom I believe was Albert. He was professional and genuine. He explained the increased plastic cost related to Covid and was super friendly. He is a real asset to this company. But sadly the way Paul spoke to me and hung up me twice I cannot return there to their establishment. The boy whom verbally attacked me and hung up me twice is the owners son. He actually lied and stated he was the owner. I feel sorry for his parents. As if he was rude to a stranger over the phone. I wonder how he treats his parents.
This is a great place, food is always consistent with fresh ingredients. Service is spot on, even with a packed power lunch crowd we were able to get in, fed, and back out without any waits. Will be going here for a long time to come.
It's been a while since we last ate here. Salsa is simple, but it doesn't mean that's always good. I forgot how much I like their salsa. We (my partner) both like it. We had the avocado fries as an appetizer. They are good but not great... But they are a nice alternative for an appetizer though. For the main course I had the shrimp enchiladas with mushrooms and spinach with the Tomatila sauce that I requested, other than the sauce that came with it. Good call. Their Tomatila sauce is spot on. I love a good green sauce. More authentic to Mexico as a sauce. My partner had the steak enchiladas (not on the menu) but he knows to ask for it and they will make it that way. He had the red chili con carne sause. He enjoyed his main course as well. Not great atmosphere or pazzaz but it's good Mexican food for a large restaurant. I would recommend it as a downtown eatery.
Service at the bar was a little slow. Covid staffing issues most likely. The food was excellent and the drinks were strong so I was not terribly upset by the delays. We enjoyed the margarita menu choices.
Wayyy too much pickled cabbage, could barely taste the rest of the ingredients, the pickle juice soaked through the tortilla & made everything fall apart. The beans & rice were good *together*. I liked the texture of the salsa (similar to Applebee's), but the taste wasn't there, the tortilla chips were good though.
