Chicagoan here but moved to Toledo a few years back. I have been looking for some good cuisine for ages and while I’ve had some luck I have not had ANYTHING like Island Soul out here! Amazing flavors, good portions and reasonable prices. I had the curry goat and the plantain fries. The goat was tender, well seasoned and complimented the peas and rice so WELL! But those PLANTAIN FRIES????? Good GAWD! I swear, every time I took a bite I found myself saying “now this don’t make no sense”. In a good way of course! Every bite was better than the last! I just cannot say enough great things about this place! I will be ordering again!!!!!
the salmon patties are the most amazing food I have put in my mouth, along with the sauce - *chef's kiss*.this restaurant does not miss! the grits are smoky and creamy and I can eat them everyday. The salmon salad is my go to for lunch, the jerk sauce on the peas and rice is a match made in heaven.If you are looking to support a small, local, woman owned business, this is the one.
I gave Island Soul a 5 star review because it is simply the best food I've tasted since moving back to Toledo. I lived in Chicago for 41yrs where they have some of THE best Restaurants with every cuisine from around world. Honestly, Island Soul took me back to Chicago. If you try Island Soul and don't like it, you don't no good food but I'm sure you're gonna love it.
I had the chicken & waffles & I can't say enough how freakin good these were. Perfectly seasoned/breaded chicken & the waffles were crispy & THICK. 10/10 recommend! The owner is a delight to work with as well!

Such amazing food and you can taste the culture and love in it! The Soul Mac is a must and that Tropical Fried Chicken Sandwich was perfectly seasoned and juicy as can be. Moral of the story is Island Soul smacks and you gotta try it!!!
