I've eaten that salad for years before you took over the deli. It is DEFINITELY NOT the same recipe and quality ingredients used in the true Original Garbage Salad before you took over the deli. Your food quality is awful in comparison. There's nothing you could do to make it right except bring back the former owners and original recipes.**********************************We were craving a Grumpy's Original Garbage Salad for lunch today. It's always been by far my favorite salad to get anywhere in greater Toledo. But, I think it had been since the beginning of COVID when I last had one. I called in my to-go order and was literally so excited on my drive downtown to pick it up. I couldn't wait to devour all of its deliciousness! I should've known when I walked in and there was plenty of seating during the peak lunch hour, that things have changed at Grumpy's. In the past, on any given lunch hour, all tables would be full and people would be jammed in around the front door waiting to be seated. But, I happily grabbed my to-go order, wondering where the wonderful cookie smell was at the counter, then rushed out to my car and back to the office to dive in. When I opened the bag, I thought they messed up my order. The salad looked NOTHING like the TRUE Original Garbage Salad. There was no sight of what used to be a generous portion of all the fresh toppings. Instead, I was staring at a heap of what smelled like bagged pre-cut iceburg lettuce with scant toppings and none of their famous pumpernickel croutons. The toppings were so sparse you could actually see through the very thinly sliced piece of mushroom. Yes, one tiny piece of mushroom. The TRUE Original Garbage Salad had chunks of fresh cut mushrooms and wonderful generous fresh toppings. Now, I certainly understand COVID, supply chain issues and inflation make it increasingly more challenging to run a profitable local restaurant, but these salads were 180º different than the TRUE Original. I'd much rather pay a couple dollars more for the TRUE Original Garbage Salad, than to have paid $32 for a bag of iceburg lettuce - talk about inflation!! SO DISAPPOINTING!! What a shame the new owners thought they could cut their food costs so dramatically and no one would notice the quality is gone. Trust me, Grumpy's owners, we notice! You've destroyed an iconic Toledo restaurant and you're giving local business a bad rap - fix it or close because your current food quality is awful. And, you made me VERY GRUMPY.
So let's start off by saying this is my first time at grumpys the staff was great the vegan veggie was great the salad was a salad not Manny dressing options for vegans buy hey you win some you loose some. So I came in to grumpys for a quick bite, I thought the place was nice so I decided to dine in I order every single vegan item off the menu(I tend to believe I'm a traveling vegan food critic) so again I'm eating and from one plate to another I get to the VEGAN impossible burger. I talked to everyone here so I stopped a random worker and told them that the burger was under cooked and could it be remade to go because I had finished everything else the worker told me no it's vegan it's suppose to be like that and that's cooked more than what we usually cook them so no. So I ask for a manager and she says to me No I'm the owner(CASSIE) nice to meet you ( had to ask the other employees her name cusbshe never gave it) I'm like I've been vegan over 7 years and thats not done she then says well we not remaking it we can take that one and put it back on the grill and that's it. I usually don't do bad reviews but it was imperative that I publicly share this experience. I wish nothing but luck to any business owner but that by far was the worst experience I've had in years. I really wish this was social media so I could tagged the city's health inspector. And btw before grumpy decides to reply and warrant their nonsense I recorded the whole thing and will be more than happy to post that if need be
The food at Grumpy’s is always great, but the serving/kitchen staff needs to take their time a bit more to read the orders. Two times in a row now they’ve forgotten an extra side that I paid for, and not made substitutions for the items that I’ve ordered. Again the food is always wonderful, but for the high price I expect my food to be right at least most of the time.
I’m obsessed with these salads. Absolutely delicious. Fresh. Delicious combination of ingredients. Their poppy seed dressing is delicious. A great lunch option.
Whenever I'm driving through Toledo, I always used to schedule my trip around a visit to Grumpy's. The menu WAS diverse, inventive, and everything was delicious! The garbage salad has been a local favorite for decades. For me, every meal would also end with a bag of cookies to-go. On my recent visit, my garbage salad was mediocre. It was missing all the good "stuff". I asked what was going on? I found out the restaurant was sold. AH! The new menu is much more limited and completely eliminated all of the iconic grilled sandwiches.The garbage salad is now meh. Garbage cookies are now $6 EACH.
Garbage salad was not very appetizing, several big chunks of brown iceberg lettuce, chicken was extremely tough. Used to be my favorite lunch place in downtown. What a disappointment!
If you are related to the Rockefellors, Bill Gates, or the Zuckerberg family than it's a good place for you...The most over priced/over hyped food in downtown Toledo!! I know because I work downtown....never again will I eat at Grumpy's
Used to LOVE Grumpys, I no longer reside in Toledo so when I'm there I always make a point to stop in, the past TWO times I was unimpressed. Salad didn't taste fresh and lacked toppings, also the turkey burger came with nothing unless you paid extra. Seems like they have taken a turn for becoming more commercial than original, while raising their prices unbelievably high. I'm disappointed x2.
Cool atmosphere, good food and drinks..service was great. Absolutely fantastic burger! ?
