We drive 45 minutes to eat at this restaurant. This was our third visit and will not be our last. Food is fresh and so good. We had shrimp tacos, fish tacos, zucchini blossom taco special, carnitas, salmon with pumpkin seed mole, fundido, elote, guacamole, margaritas and flan. Everything was excellent.
Delicious food and drinks. Friendly, attentive staff. We tried several of the tacos as well as the Mexican street corn. Everything was flavorful and well cooked.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ The best tacos in northeast Ohio⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Fab service⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Delicious drinksWe will be back. Quality, well executed, delicious dishes. 2 nice patios.& Support good causes with the beersIt's a little off the beaten path in Kent, but definitely worth a stop.
You have to try the Battleground Taproom! There is a charm to taproom that is so inviting and the patio is perfect to enjoy the delicious food! The food was so savory and the menu is real traditional quality Mexican food with fresh ingredients…so tasty! Now the beer - well it’s so great! Beer with a mission so you can feel great drinking it. Love this place will come back all the way from Phoenix, AZ for it!
Rosi and Kirk are amazing hosts. Always a great time. Food is incredible, back patio is gorgeous, and service is very good. Would highly recommend for authentic Mexican food, great beers, and a good selection of tequilas!
I am originally from Los Angeles, CA so I’ve been to several authentic Mexican restaurants. I’ve been to many “Mexican” restaurants in Ohio and the Midwest in general since I moved here a decade ago and I am always disappointed because they have the audacity to say they serve Mexican food when in reality they don’t. However, each time someone tells me about a Mexican restaurant to try I go in hopes that this time it will be different. Let me tell you, tonight it was totally different. The Battleground is by far one of the BEST actually authentic Mexican restaurants I’ve ever been to out of the 29 states I’ve visited. They have two cute outdoor seating areas, they have a bar area indoor, and an area for general seating area. The decor is intimate and the staff is so helpful. I asked tons of questions and they were so patient with me. Rush hour started around 6pm and it became a little hard to hear my partner but we just sat a little closer to each other, which wasn’t an issue for either of us. He ordered the Jicama Salad and I ordered the Chile Sorpresa. Both were deliciously cooked and clean presentation. We ordered the Tamal Chocolate, which was ammmmmmmmmmazing. We are so excited to return for taco nights and to see the live music they have on Saturdays. This place is a gem! We sat close to the kitchen so we got to take a look at everything that came out and it was so hard to not keep ordering more items. I unfortunately didn’t wear my stretchy pants. The pictures here don’t do it justice. Oh and I almost forgot to tell you about the driiinnks - I got the Jam Cider (lots of berries) and bae got the Buena Noche (pomegranate, mezcal, and I forgot what else). They were both so delicious! We are definitely ubering next time so we can have more than one.
Great, out of the way place to eat. If the weather is nice, the outdoor patio dining is open and inviting. My Carne Asada "Street Tacos" were very good, the steak was tender and juicy. I tried the Triple Jam Cider and it was excellent, but they do have lots of other IPA's, Stouts and other drink selections, if you prefer something more standard. For desert, the Flan was good, but the Churros were tremendous. Definitely a restaurant worth a try!
The food was wonderful. I loved the presentation of the food and the uniqueness of the dishes used to serve. The lady and I visited here on a Friday with a 4:45pm reservation. We sat outside which boasted a lovely outdoor patio with lights strung above. Our appetizer was a standard chips and salsa as well as their soup POZOLE (first picture). It was wonderful. I was a bit disappointed with the price compared to the portion size. The $14 soup should have been priced a $9.For our main course, we ordered their special (not mentioned on the online menu) of shredded pork (see second picture). Our second disappointment came with the serving size. This $25 entree was tiny. I would have like to see $14 based on the portion size. Maybe $19 on the very high end. $25 dollar entrees with tiny portions is something I'd expect to see at Flemings or Morton's. While the food and ambiance was great, it's not worth of flemings prices. We also ordered an assortment of tacos. The tacos are delicious. Keep in mind that these are street taco size so order a few. We found that 4 was enough for one person. Our server was absolutely wonderful. Smiles and quick service. I appreciate the owner visiting us at the end of the meal to insure a quality experience. With a unique location placement nestled where you wouldn't expect, Battleground is a perfectly good Mexican restaurant with overreaching prices of competitors on the next tier. Food authenticity will be on the next level most Ohioans are not used to but still won't compete with restaurants found near the southern Mexican border. A wonderful experience with delightful service, this is a perfect place for a light authentic meal.
Divine! Real Mexican food, home made tortillas. Best tequila and margarita I’ve ever had. Everything thing is made fresh and is top tier home cooking. Food, service and atmosphere that just makes you feel loved.
The Battleground is phenomenal. Truly a gem, a one-of-kind place that we are so lucky to have in Kent. My friends from New York and California all agree that the tacos they’ve had when I bring them here are on par with the best they’ve had in NYC and San Francisco. The staff is great, especially the owner, who always takes time to check on guests. I love the social justice mission. The beautiful and well-lit patio is fabulous when it’s warmer weather. Can’t wait for spring and summer here!
