This was a real disappointment. We had been fans pre-covid days... wow, so much has declined. Menu did not match online, printed but could barely see the faded ink. Very small selection. Waiter told us he was in a big hurry because he was also working a wedding in the next room . Recommened the philly cheesesteak . It was unedible, just like shoe leather. Wings were greasy and no taste. Waiter never came back the entire evening....so we flagged down another server to clear the check... I know everyone is short staffed, so not blaming him as much as the management . Will not be returning. but sad part is that it is a beautiful facility and once known for great food. Beautiful view of the golf course, entrance impressive with gorgeous flowers and very clean , in spite of the other issues.
Me and my wife really enjoyed Black River Tavern in the past for brunch. He our server was very conscientious and polite. We went there for a relaxing brunch unfortunately the brunch menu has changed tremendously for the worst. I ordered a breakfast sandwich sausage was extremely undercooked the egg extremely overcooked. Our server accommodated us the best he could another server joined in to get our order corrected. My wifeâs food was ok at best . You go to a meal at an establishment for a pleasant experience. Black river tavern underperformed for our experience. Not certain we will return.
I wrote a glowing review of this Golf Course restaurant just a year ago. Iâve since used it only for a quick âat the turnâ eatery until last night. July 15th. Iâm sorry to say that the 5 star plus rating of last year is merely a 3 for dining today. For starters the menu on the web site does not exist. Gone are the fine entrees from a year ago. No sirloin, short ribs, scallops, BBQ Ribs. Selections are just about what youâll find in your neighborhood sports bar. The difference between the two are the number of tv screens youâll be forced to contend with. Burgers are now a broader selection item on the menu. Gone, too, are the great Lobster Tots and in their place are garlicky fried potato cubes with a dash of parmigiana cheese. My wife had the fish and chips and got three pieces of frozen breaded cod that looked like they came from the near by Costco freezer section. Not at all fresh fish. I had chicken parmigiana which was one piece of chicken fried to near perfect shoe leather quality and linguine with a mild sauce that came in a small oval serving dish. Definitely more a lunch size portion in any of the near by quality restaurants in Westlake or even Elyria. Prices for most entrees were in the $18-$24 range. One perk was my tangeray and tonic came in a 10 once drinking glass and the bar tender was generous in his pour. Definitely not the high quality of just 11 months ago (dinner wise) and I wonât be back for dinner or for a quick stop while playing a round of golf. Donât know why the restaurant has gone this route and my questions couldnât be answered by my friendly and capable server , Rick, nor from the hostess. Itâs a shame the restaurant industry has fallen off as much as it has. Iâll go out of my way to visit a good establishment with decent atmosphere. Such as Burntwood Tavern on Columbia Rd. In North Olmsted. It will be a while before we give Black River Tavern another try . David B Avon OH

The food was good, the scenery was great and the service excellent!
We love to support local and the atmosphere is always excellent on the patio. that’s where the “good” experience ended. Ordered the Steak Frietis Med-rare cook and after waiting 45 minutes received a piece of meat (not the cut i ordered) and it was barely warmed through (blue raw) we got an apology @ told that “pushing” the chef to get orders done!! we paid for my husband’s meal, and left a tip for the waitress. SADLY, WE WON’T BE BACK ?

Cassidy was pleasant, efficient and made us feel very valued. The food was Delicious. We enjoyed the fabulous lobster bisque, the generous chicken sandwich and the perfect chicken sandwich.
Never had a chance to dine. We arrived on time, waited at the hostess stand where it took 15 minutes for anyone to acknowledge us even though employees walked passed us numerous times. Once they finally greeted us, she said there was no reservation for us in the system. I provided the paper showing our reservation information. We were then told we would have to wait for over an hour to be seated with or without a reservation. We left the establishment to seek other dining. Not a good start for my wife's birthday.
Great specials and food. Service was great. Noise was a little high. Will go back without a doubt.
