The pizza here is fantastic! I ordered the Taylor Street and customized it a little bit, which made it even better. The drinks are very good as well. The folks ordered pizza and the chicken parm. sandwich and we all sampled those, and enjoyed them. Prices are a bit steep for the portion sizes you get, in my opinion, but, I highly recommend!
Friendly staff who were very accommodating of our party of 3 during a busy start to dinner service. (Reservations recommended) We were able to get full service at the bar. Food was delicious from the eggplant/porcini meatballs to the spring caprese salad and Philly sandwich. Generous kids meal portions. Bartenders were all very attentive to our needs.
Kat is an amazing host. Their egg plant fries are amazing!! So is their margarita pizza! Their whole menu is healthy and unique. They have something for everyone from the vegan to carnivores to kids and elderly. Whirl we were there they were quite busy but it didn't stop our food from arriving fast and the ambience is very nice there! Only thing was parking. We had to drive around the block to find parking and if you arent familiar with Dayton this could be unnerving. But they do have a parking lot and you can park on street right by restaurant so it really shouldn't be an issue. I highly recommend!
A lovely atmosphere is to be had at Wheat Penny. The servers here are absolutely top notch. Eric, Amber and Isabella are terrific. They're personable, helpful and they make one feel truly welcome. The Classic Vegetable soup is delicious! Plenty of chic peas and very filling. I could have eaten those crouton garnishes all day.I also tried an original Gin drink called Persian Spring. As a mixologist I'm usually tough on new drink inventions but this time I'm quite surprised and delighted! It's mixed with rose water, rose syrup and Empress 1908 purple Gin. Refreshing and complex enough to be a conversation piece. It's garnished with edible rose petals and a piece of candied lemon. Absolutely wonderful! Highly recommended for foodies and lovers of fine Gin drinks. Will definitely visit again! ?
This place was suggested to us by a local. Wow were we glad we went! The food was so good! We had the focaccia bread with oil, pizza, and salad. The bread was so soft and tasty. The pizza was perfect. I am not going to lie the salad was the best part. It had crispy garlic and pepperoni. I would be tempted to return to Dayton just for this restaurant.
Came here for dinner on a Friday night with a couple of friends and really enjoyed it. Waitress was good. Food was good. Got the strip steak and my wife got a burger - we were both very happy with what we got. They have an outdoor patio area which they enclose and heat for the winter and we sat there - it was quite hot actually, but not enough so to affect our experience. Would definitely come back I’d say
While in town I was able to catch up with some friends at Wheat Penny. They offered a great selection of draft beers and a full drink menu. The menu was fairly extensive but it appeared a lot of people tended to gravitate towards the pizzas, and for good reason as I can attest that they were wonderful! We sat in an enclosed outdoor seating as we had a larger group (9) and there was more than enough room for us and it was very comfortable. The wait staff were terrific, very helpful and attentive to the needs of the table! I absolutely loved the time I spent here, and perhaps some of it had to do with my company, but the food was tremendous. If I had another day in Dayton, I would be hard pressed not to go back to Wheat Penny as it was simply that great of an eating experience!
Great local family owned, pizza for sure, and so many dishes more styles of including vegan! Enjoy all with a great bottle of wine?
Went out to lunch with my spouses and our husband found this place and we hadn't been. The atmosphere is fantastic and they have buyable art work from local artists for sale. The food was so good! My wife and I had been craving pizza and the pies here were amazing! The drink menu looked amazing also and while the French 75 was only a mocktail on the menu I have never seen a place where they served it in any fashion.
This past Saturday night my friend any I had tickets to a show at 8pm at the Loft Theater. We arrived at Wheat Penny at 6:15pm. They said it would be an hour wait. They were not sure they could get us seated, served and have time to eat before we had to leave. We decided to wait anyway. After about 35 minutes, the hostess (Ivy), came over and said if we wanted to go ahead with our order to her, she would have it ready for us when our table was ready. About 15 minutes later, we were seated. Our waiter delivered our drinks and then our dinner. We were just finishing up when Ivy again came to our table and said " we were welcome to stay as long as we would like but she wanted us to know what time it was so we could make the show on time. SUCH EXCELLENT CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!! Ivy was wonderful, but the whole staff tried to accommodate our needs. At the show , we sat with a lady who said her husband and their friend would be there for the second half. They had arrived at another restaurant in the Oregon District at 6:15. They waited 1/2 hour to get a table. They were not finished with dinner in time to leave so the woman left and went to the show and the gentlemen would meet up at the intermission. We were happy to share our story of such excellent customer service. As always. the food was as good as the service!!!! WAY TO GO IVY AND WHEAT PENNY!!!!
