This is such a unique place! I have made 2 trips here bringing up foster cats & kittens from a rescue in Southern WV. Not only are they very diligent about the health of the kitties they accept but they take amazing care of them once they have been entered into their adoption program. I have a hard time letting go of some of my fosters, but when I know they get to go to the Gem City Catfe I don't stress anymore because I know they will be in wonderful hands. Several of my fosters have been adopted already and their new owners seem like absolutely wonderful people. I wouldn't hesitate to bring any of my foster kitties here and if I ever wanted to adopt I'd choose this purrfect place. Their cat area is very cat & human friendly and they keep the entire place VERY clean! On top of all that, their drinks are amazing! I'll have to try a pastry the next time I make a trip!
First time here and I loved it. The mocha coffee I had was really good, in a fancy mug even. I think it's a wonderful idea and a good way to give to the animals. It's not very big so I do recommend a reservation for the cat room. You can even join for $25 and get reduced cat room rates. Great job guys!
The staff is kind and helpful, and this is a great business & mission to support. My recommendation would be to avoid going on a weekend afternoon, however, if you want to pet the cats. If you do go then, be prepared to mostly observe the cats and other patrons. When I was there for a 3pm reservation, most of the six cats at the time were irritable and seemed quite tired of people interacting with them, which is fair, because there were a lot of people (about 10) in a relatively small space with the cats. The best part for me was the coffee.
The Catfé is one of my favorite neighborhood spots! The drinks and treats are great - I had buttered rum chai and a gingerbread macaron the other day, and both were delicious. The staff are consistently friendly and helpful, even when it's clear they're super busy. Through all the ups and downs of the pandemic, they've always prioritized the safety and happiness of their cats and their customers. The cat lounge is a really comfortable place to hang out and meet the kitties without stress or pressure, and they're all well cared for. I'll be back many times!
Peaceful, clean, beautiful environment. The staff was very polite and helpful. The coffee was great. Hanging out with the cats was such a unique experience! ☺?
The cats were so fun, but the employees were not. Every time I come here the employees make me feel like an inconvenience. I prefer driving an hour away for the other cat cafe. I kept giving it another chance but I just can’t do it anymore :(
The staff was prompt, polite and informative. They knew all about the kitties inside and the food was very tasty! They provide steel cups for coffee so the cats don’t sip from your drink and they stay hot while you play with the animals. Lots of open space and toys for them too!
I have been wanting to visit a cat cafe for quite some time now. My husband surprised me with a visit for a mini date. Everything seemed great when we got there. Got some coffee and a piece of lemon pound cake. The cake was overdone and dry. But one of the kitties sure seemed to like it! I didn’t feed it, but it reminded me of my senior girl we put to sleep recently. The first major red flag was the amount of cats in the small space. There were probably a dozen or so cats in the room. I know they’re probably not there long before adoption, but with cats being so territorial, this just felt wrong. The second major red flag was the amount of people allowed in the room. Probably twenty or so? Stressed cats get even more stressed. A majority of our time there we just sat and watched cats fight. The third red flag was a lack of attention by the employees. There were definitely people visiting who obviously had no basic cat knowledge. Several people seemed to hone in on this one specific black and white female cat who definitely wanted to be left alone, but didn’t want to leave her perch. Two girls started poking at this cat, agitating it to the point of growling and swatting at them. This continued for the duration of the hour. Near the end of the hour, a young boy continuously poked this cat’s primordial pouch over and over with a toy, laughing at the cat lunged at him with vicious growls. It wasn’t until the end of the hour an employee asked the boy to leave the cat alone (after my husband who is very new to cats told him that this poor cat was tired of playing.) There definitely should be some more general observation from the employees to ensure the cats best wellbeing when it comes to people who are new to cats. At the very least, a spare room to place cats who have obviously had enough social interaction for the day. This whole experience left us heartbroken, wishing we could have just adopted that black and white female right then to get her out of the stressful situation.
