Ok so me and my daughter went to zanzibar yesterday and had dinner...It was soooooooo good I went back today and had lunch while at work they honey glazed chicken is AMAZINGGGGI also had some greens with smoked meat with mac &cheeseI promise everybody y'all will not be disappointed
I really enjoyed myself & my food, the honey glaze chicken was good & the candied yams just like I like them. I will return when I come visit again.
Let me first say I'd go back. But this first experience wasn't the best. The chicken was fried a little too hard. The French connection drink I had was awesome. The purple rain drink was good until I saw some stuff floating in it that I couldn't identify. The mac and cheese and yams were great. The pasta was tasty as well. They need to clean the panels around the bottom of the bar a little more.
Loved it here. Crystal was my server. She rec'd the turkey chops fried & smothered, bread pudding & Zanzibar drink. It was delicious! Had to bring half back to my room.
The food is decent, but the veggie plates portions are just too small. 3 to go sides for $12.50. The 3 containers stacked are smaller than your average can. I feel like the portions you get when you order Togo are significantly smaller than in house.
Great food for us vegetarians. Really inexpensive, Great severs. Great Soul food.
The decor is amazing the food delicious and the customer service was also great.
Brought my wife and brother here a few weeks ago because their soulful pasta is amazing. Do NOT go here unless the owner is working there... went here on a Sunday night and had the worst service i e ever experienced... the waitress was terrible, didn't bring us plates for our apps, took our menus and then came to take our order 10 minutes later, and was just wandering around most of our meal without stopping at our table. Wife ordered a martini and she brought a mojito... took it to the bar to have it fixed and the lady rolled her eyes and told me it was a "Zanzibar martini" then took out a menu to show me and said oh yeah I guess it isn't. Ok I'll make another one. All the staff was standing around gossiping loudly with each other and just had an attitude. The chicken and waffles was disappointing. Dry chicken, and no syrup or sauce to go with it. Asked for syrup and the waitress went straight behind the wall and talked about it with a coworker like it was weird that we asked. Grits were clumpy like it was from a box. Soulful pasta was amazing though. Finally they had the audacity to charge an 18% gratuity for our table of 4, and when I asked the waitress she said apparently they charge everyone an 18% gratuity even if it is just 1 person, and that started only a WEEK ago... terrible experience, rude and careless staff, and the food was disappointing (except for the soulful pasta). I will never return here. This was my third time, and coming during the week at lunch when the cheerful owner is there is the only acceptable time to go here. It's a shame how the staff is when the owner is not there! Very terrible night out and disappointing meal.
My friend and I accidentally ended up here after trying 2 previous spots and didn't like them. I felt like I was in the South. The hospitality here is great; the staff were friendly and welcoming. The food was really good. Better than good. Far better than we expected. My taste buds were definitely not prepared for this. We checked in our hotel thereafter and fell asleep. The end.**Note: We sat at the bar because we were told that they were only serving at the bar.
Having visited the Shaker Square location previously, I was looking forward to a good meal. That was accomplished and was delicious overall, however, I found not all dishes arrived hot to me (the House potatoes, for instance). Also, please note that all Zanzibar restaurants do not share all menu items. This visit, their jerk chicken wing dings (accompanied with Cajun corn and corn muffins, sides changeable upon request), the catfish meal (accompanied with cole slaw, but is also changeable upon request), coffee, and a soft drink known as The Sunrise (made with lemonade and red Koolaid). Even though I was very hungry, pictures have been provided for your viewing pleasure! If you fancy a soul food meal and just happen to be in the Downtown Cleveland area, go ahead and give them a try. 4/5
