Great food and ambience at a very approachable price point. The patio in the summer is amazing. Definitely try a selection from the cheese board. Great location for every occasion.
Fairly typical upscale French restaurant in a quaint and quiet central location. I found the menu to be limited, but probably ideal for those seeking a European selection. Otherwise, we were seated in a disappointing high traffic location near the bar. We counted over 250 staff and customer trips past our table and in close proximity while dining. Chairs were hard plastic and an otherwise inviting intimate decor. I wish them the best, but I doubt I'll return.
What a treat! The waiter's recommendations and their realization by the chef exceeded my expectations. Additional staff virtually hovered over me to bring my food immediately from the kitchen or to see if I needed anything — bread, more water, a take-home box. The reservation process was easy. The hostess not only checked my coat and a bag but retrieved it when I couldn't find my phone in my purse. (Stupid of me, I know, but hostess made sure I didn't feel like an idiot. .) could walk here after a concert at Severance Hall and then walk back to my hotel. If I had one hesitation in my excellent review it would be the sense that my waiter did not pay the same attention to me — in fulfilling requests (e.g. a drink order, the wine list) — as he did to the solo man in the adjacent table or to all the tables with more than one diner. Traveling and dining as a solo woman, I'm unfortunately aware of such discrepancies.
The ambience and the atmosphere is really good for a special occasion. We had a table reservation and got the chance to sit in the wine cellar room which gave us a private space in front of a beautiful wine collection. We had the escargot and beef heart to start up. For our main course, we had shrimp pasta which was good like as you expect for a pasta dish, lamb braised shoulder, beef tenderloin, cod which was one dish we did not like, felt it wasn't cooked properly. We had the special drinks and all of them were really good. We tried almost all the desserts, everything tasted really good, the one which stood out was the soufflé.
Serving simple, elegant, yet wholly delicious food in an unpretentious brasserie setting, L'Albatros is Cleveland's premiere French restaurant and my go to selection for bringing visitors and friends for a taste of great French cuisine over the years before COVID. This review is my first visit after covid and it's like visiting an old friend. The menu is pared down - I miss their seared sea scallops (my favorite dish), their rotating plats du jour. I also love their onion soup and their warm brownie dessert. They also have an excellent selection of cheeses and wine. For this visit, we ordered: (1) Confit de canard (duck confit) with sweet potato puree and braised red cabbage, (2) braised lamb shoulder with fregula pasta risotto and red wine demi jus, (3) brasserie chop salad with Roquefort, and (4) Pizza Bianco with rosemary, garlic, parmesan and fontina cheese -- see photos attached to this review. The duck confit and braised lamb shoulder - traditional French fare - were expertly prepared and elegantly presented, and tasted as good as they looked. Service was impeccable. Highly recommended!
We were in town for one night and picked this place based on pictures reviews and proximity to our hotel. I had the menu cod and my wife had the menu chicken cassoulet. We started with a shared mushroom French toast appetizer and ended with crème caramel. I had a glass of wine and coffee. Every single thing was excellent. Great textures, flavors and interesting combinations. Ashley provided solid information and on point recommendations. The total bill was $93. So not just great food but great value. It’s unfortunate that we don’t get to Cleveland often.
First time trying out a French restaurant and I was not disappointed. The staff here is friendly, knowledgeable and attentive, the food is delicious and the ambiance is elegant and modern. I’m excited to return!
