I have been meaning to try this place for a while. I will NEVER return. After reading the other reviews of roaches IN THEIR FOOD AND MARGARITAS- both within 6 months ago I’m quite sick to my stomach I didn’t read those first. Just disgusting.I came in to order lunch take out. Nothing vegetarian on the lunch menu. When I wAs ordering I asked the girl if there was anything vegetarian in the menu she said, No, only the regular menu. Which is ridiculous. Not even an offer to sub veggies on a current lunch menu item. Cool, whatever. So I asked about the Vegetarian enchiladas. $13.99, but no rice and beans. She said that was an extra $5. I wanted soup also which is $8.99. So it’d be a $28 lunch, pre tip.So… I ordered 2 cheese enchiladas a la carte- $3.49 each, side rice and beans, and a soup. I asked her how big the soup was because I thought $9 was steep. She replied with her hands showing a big size and said “It’s big”. Perfect. I wanted soup but figured I’d try other food I typically order at other Mexican restaurants. Especially since Authentic is in the actual name of the restaurant. My food was out in 5 minutes, no exaggeration. My soup was in a separate bag and felt very light. So I opened it and the “big” $9 soup was half full. So I told her it was only half full, could they fill the bowl. She said that’s how it is. Another employee walked up and opened the bowl. He was annoyed at my request and reluctantly took it in the back and filled it. When I replied with “thank you I really appreciate it”, he just walked away. The rice and beans were ok. Huge portion, they were a meal in itself. The rice was not like at any other Mexican place I’ve been, it had little bits of tiny veggies throughout. The enchiladas?? I have never seen such small tortillas. They were mini. And the red sauce? If that is authentic then I need to reevaluate my knowledge of Mexican food, because it tasted like it was straight out of a jar, just like the rice- straight from a box.My soup, once filled, was delicious. But after my experience and spending $26, tip included on lunch- I will not return. It’s unfortunate.
Some of the best Mexican (Tex mex) in the area!!! The building is very beautiful inside and out. Our service was fast and friendly! The food was absolutely delicious!!! We got amazing portions and great value. Boyfriend and I both ordered the El Jalapeños Special which includes pork tamale, beef taco, beef enchilada, chalupa, and a Chile relleno, and a side of rice and refried beans. It was sooooo good! The pulled pork inside the tamale has a great flavor and texture, and the tamale breading is perfect! the beef taco was nice and crispy, the ground beef is perfectly seasoned and has that nice fine texture. The Chile relleno is FULL of cheese and not too spicy (just how I want it). I was too full to take a bite of the enchilada, and I had two boxes for my leftovers since I just nibbled on a bit of everything! It was lunchtime so I don’t know how their margaritas are, but I would love to come back and find out!!! This place exceeded all my expectations! Thank you!
Had a wonderful experience at this restaurant. We were a party of six and were seated right away. Service was on point. Food was excellent. My only ding to this establishment is they were out of Patron. One of our guests decided on another brand. I was surprised how busy they were at 6pm on a Tuesday. We'll definitely be back!
Your first time visiting this place will never be your last! They offer amazing margaritas, fried ice-cream and tasty entrees. The best part of this great place is definitely the staff. I have been going here for years and not once have I ever been disappointed in service. They will treat you like family. They go above and beyond to make sure your experience is great!!
Service trash , food cold plates hotter then food. Was not a fan of the food . I got the 3 chicken tacos . We waited about 20 mins just to get cashed out. She took my card and didn’t come back for a while. Never checked back in to see how we was doin until the end . No refills nor smile just look sad and like she hate her job . She kept stopping in her tracks to text and be on her phone . NEVER COME HERE. It’s better Mexican places in the area . By far the worse. Only thing that was good was the chips
Service is fast and friendly. I really enjoyed my margarita. Had the quesadilla grande as an entre and it was tasty.
One of my all time favourite places for Mexican food in Cleveland/Lakewood. Many of the locals love this place AND the staff run it very smoothly. The best recommendations are the burritos and chimichangas
Food was fine, service was bad. We went on Sunday and after our waitress took our food order, she never came back. Our food was brought out by the kitchen staff and our waitress never came to check that our orders were correct (luckily, they were!), refill drinks or chips, ask if we needed anything, etc. We would have ordered more margaritas, but never had the opportunity. We all ran out of water. I'm disappointed with the experience and would not go back. The food was good, but on par with other Mexican restaurants in the area.
Server couldn’t comprehend English then messed order up few times then took my to go order n said it was someone else’s n I had my other good in bag trying to get it as he’s snatching my bag from me very rude worst service ever We won’t be back!!
Stumbled upon this gem today. Working in the area and another popular mexican restaurant was closed for lunch so I tried El Jalapenos. Got the order to go and everyone was super friendly. I consider myself a food critic and I enjoyed every bite. I'll be back!
