I didn’t feel like cooking but wanted a good nutritious meal. I ordered the pick your own meal with chicken, charred broccoli and lemon tahini cauliflower. It was all delicious and was not greasy or heavy. Great quick dinner. The portion size was not huge but very tasty.
Yesterday I was looking at the menu and a choice included potato leek soup. And while today's menu offered a "soup of the day" it seems they only have one soup tomato. I called to ask. I ordered the tomato and found it to be more like a marinara sauce with a little kick to it. Not sure I would order it again. Came with no crackers or croutons..or maybe that explains the 2nd bagel...which is really a roll and today's case was stale. I also had the spinach salad which was a healthy combination that included a brown sugar vinagrette to go with. The spoonful of whipped chevre was small, there were also some sliced beets, egg (extra) walnuts and mushrooms. Sounds weird but was actually pretty good.
We were greeted with a very friendly hostess with a beautiful white linen blouse and a smile I could feel under her mask. We did not have to wait and Shannon engaged us with her sweet personality. Shannon answered all of our questions and described every sauce and menu options. I had salmon squash and potatoes. My sister ordered the New England style fish.....OMG....Delicious. Just love the food and service. Everyone (owner?) was just great. Wished I ordered more food....?) next time!!!!
Been here many times and every meal was awesome. The service was great and the selection is fantastic.
This area is in dire need of a relaxed restaurant that offers good food (something other than stodgy bar food), full bar service and ambiance. I’m so hoping this restaurant will step up and be that. It has some work to do!!! The food from a very limited menu is tasty but would be good to add a few more healthier options to the main plates. (Too much bread). The service is extremely extremely slow - both the table ( the bartender has to service the bar AND a section of the restaurant- this is crazy!!!!!!) and the kitchen service is slow. Food takes forever to come out - nobody minds waiting for good food but you at least want to have a drink whilst you wait, so having to wait and wait and wait for both spoilt our evening. All the servers are friendly and they try to keep the mood light but the service timing needs to change.
We hadn't been since the restaurant format changed. We decided to give it a try for the clam bake. At best it was just ok. The portion my husband received wasn't large and there wasn't even a whole ear of corn. I opted for the pho which lacked seasoning. My son's burger and fries was the best entree at the table.
I really like this place. I have been here with my daughter and again with my husband, and we all loved the atmosphere and style of the place. Wonderful service. Great, unique menu and specials. Everything made fresh (including salad dressings and specialty drinks). Very friendly place!
After seeing the Downton Abbey movie, we decided to go and get a bite to eat, I knew that the Cafe 56 had been closed some time for a renovation but didn’t know that they had reopened and had much more than just salads! Somehow between the 4 of us, one of us got talking about Cafe 56 after saying a friend had been there recently and loved the new look! We all agreed to go there and were very warmly greeted by the host and seated at a nice table, I must say, quite the change from what it used to look like! Very nicely decorated, a nice menu with an amazing variety of choices and seasonal entrees with many dietary selections! Our waitress was very nice and informed us of some special things they were highlighting and were pleased to fine a great variety of wines, full bar and some specialty cocktails! Each of us ordered different salads and drinks and non of us were disappointed! My wife had the original pewter mug salad while I opted for the French Kiss served with berries, pears, mixed greens and a balsamic vinaigrette and of course salted bagels! All I can say is yum! Our friends husband had a Philadelphia Cheese steak sandwich and salad, while she had a shrimp and beet salad with mixed greens and they both loved their entrees! Very enjoyable evening and reasonably priced! Under $30.00 with tip for the both of us, perfect way to end an evening after a wonderful movie! Put this on your list please, good food, value and great selections and service! Can’t wait to go back!
Pleasant surprise when looking for lunch with mom. Wonderful job at the remodeling and the new menu! So much to choose from ... for every taste and diet .. lemon Italian vinaigrette out of this world !! Dipped my fresh pretzel bread in it with olive oil. There’s even a private room if having a party. I’ll be going back for more and with the kids or friends.
We ordered the Brussels sprouts appetizer and it was OUTSTANDING. We also had the vegan chicken philly sandwich which was super-filling. Great fries too. We also ordered the tuna poke bowl; the order was incorrect but they fixed it. We ended up taking the whole bowl home since we were full. Drinks are also good. Love the atmosphere and artwork too. We’ll be back.
