The restaurant is nicely decorated and well maintained. Service was also fine.We had a wonton soup, a vegetable soup, shrimps with vegetables, and a Mongolian beef. Food was tasteful, however the amount dose not seem to correspond my expectations. Especially there were too little beef in the Mongolian beef. Other than quantity, everything else was very good.
This was our first visit here. It doesn't look like too much on the outside but inside is beautiful and has plenty of seating. The service was impeccable; all employees were sweet and remembered everything we needed. The guy who seated us and brought us our tea and food was so friendly and had a sense of humor. The food was delicious. I tried both the miso tofu soup and the szechuan eggplant while my husband had the hong sue tofu. We tried each other's dishes as well. Portions were generous but not overbearing. Presentation was nice. Quite a few vegan options available for the health-conscious. The sauces were rich. It was definitely the best tasting szechuan I've ever had. The oolong tea was served in a teapot for refills and was loose leaf; it was delicious as well. The only negative I have to mention is the cost. Each menu mentions there is a 10% increase on the bill to combat rising food costs. I get it, but at the same time, this was the most I've ever spent on eating out (about $40 before tip for two). Be aware of this before you stop by!All in all, Grand Oriental Chinese gave us an excellent experience but at a premium price. If it weren't for the high cost I think we'd make the trip all the way out to Loveland just to go here.
Being an STL native I am blessed to have amazing dim sum at home. I was certainly not let down when dining at Grand Oriental. The atmosphere, service, Food, dim sum, menu, and tea was all perfect. We never had to wait for a cart despite being busy for dim sum. The servers were attentive and very kind. My daughter loves dim sum and we love authentic Chinese cuisine. Whenever we find a spot that caters to this taste, we show them love! We will be back when we come back to the area!
We were in the area and checked reviews when we decided on Chinese food.Egg roll was perfect. Crunchy and flavorful- loved it.He loved his fusion kimchi tofu soup and kept trying to get me to try it… I don’t like pickled anything but he truly enjoyed this dish and wanted to share. He ordered Kung Pao chicken and I ordered Szechuan chicken. I had asked a couple questions about it as it had been a while since I have had that dish anywhere and I was craving spicy. She confirmed it was spicy.Everything was good thus far so we were surprised at the main dishes not living up to what we had hoped and experienced with our soup and egg roll. The Szechuan chicken was sweet. There were so many shredded carrots I really disliked this dish. I strongly discourage ordering this dish. I thought I might just be off and asked him to review it and it was the same. He said, “underwhelming and not spicy, no flavor”He said about his king pao chicken, “no heat, lack of flavor”. Basically he said the same about both but was very surprised by the sweetest level. We did not enjoy the food overall…Cute/pretty place with very friendly people….
I can't say enough good things about this place. We had the dim sum (it's like tapas or small plates) and everything was so good! It was our first time and the owner was so gracious to welcome us and suggest dishes. Seriously, this beats the typical American Chinese take out we are used to. My favorite was the beef rib in black bean sauce and the sticky rice in lotus leaf. The restaurant was clean and beautifully decorated. The staff were all friendly and helpful. We live too far to go often but we will definitely return.
Delicious, made from scratch dim sum!The restaurant's decor is top notch. Wood carved designs on walls and chairs, cool caisson styling ceiling, and beautiful wooden lanterns. What really impressed me was the the home made dim sum. Unlike many restaurants, I believe the selections here are made from scratch! I am Chinese and have had dim sum throughout my life, but the shumai here tasted nothing like I had before. I ABSOLUTELY love it! Although the selections are smaller and there are less carts, the food the carts carry and those you can order from the menu are amazing. The only thing that would make this restaurant better is if they play traditional instrumental music in the background.
We are traveling from our son’s wedding in Lexington back to our home in New Jersey, and had to stop for the night in suburban Cincinnati. There was particular reason for stopping in Mason except I wanted to find a more suburban sedate stayover. While here, I found this Dim Sum restaurant reasonably close to our hotel. Having survived on brisket and bbq, we needed a change. This hideway tucked into a shopping center completely fit the bill. We had freshly made shrimp and chive dumplings, roast duck soup, and ginger and scallion lo mien. All the food was fantastic, the duck especially which came in big chunks with bok choy and noodles. This meal with two glasses of wine was $45. A deal and a scrumptious meal. The restaurant has been here 33 years. Clearly they are doing something right. Next time, I hope to try a wider variety of dumplings.
If only I lived closer to Grand Oriental because I would come here all the time and eat their AMAZING FOOD! Their dim sum is delicious and the food is so fresh and comes out so quickly! I love the staff and the brothers that own this place! I highly recommend it! Sometimes my eyes are too big for my stomach that’s how good their food is! :) Can’t wait to come back in 3 weeks! ^_^
The food is great, and service is super fast! Plenty of the basic dim sum staples (Xiao long bao, har gao, shumai, chicken feet, char siu bao, etc). I wish they had more dishes like cheung fun. More cost effective if you go in a group of 3+ people.
Ordering for Dim Sum is a bit too fast paced for me and when asking for details they just would say it was really good. I'm glad I had a friend with me to help. They were friendly and interacted with my friends kid. Some things were good like the pineapple buns and the pork things we got that were wrapped in a soft noodle-like shell. Soup dumplings were good. Shrimp options needed more flavor. A bit pricey for my taste.
