I’ve been going to Avalanche Pizza for 14 years and they absolutely the best pizza I’ve ever had. I don’t live in Athens anymore, but anytime I come back to visit I have to get a pizza from Avalanche. The basil pesto and jalapeño dipping sauces are also fantastic. Anytime pizza comes up in conversation I talk about Avalanche and how much I miss being able to order from there anytime. Glad to see that they are still going strong and surprised (but pleased) they opened up the Slice House.
I heard a lot about this pizza place before coming to Athens. And I have to say this pizza is REALLY good. Nice soft crust with a nice outer crunch, generous toppings and cheeses, not a lot of oil, and a lot of personal touch to the menu.This place definitely prides itself on the variety of specialized pizzas and it really does it well.If you ever find yourself driving through or visiting give this place a try!
Small carryout only joint. The gentleman working the counter was curt and surley. We moved a daughter into housing as she is in the grad program at OU and we stopped by to grab a quick pizza as they had good reviews online. The man delivering service was miserable and we grabbed a couple of slices to go. I think the pizza had more personality than the employee. Additionally the pizza tasted like cardboard and the pictures of the pizza on the walls probably tasted better. I'm not sure how this place stays in business. Avoid at all costs.
We tried Avalanche for dinner tonight!The food and service were excellent!We ordered at the restaurant, got 2 salads, 2 2-liters of soda and a large pizza for a very reasonable price!The salads were excellent! The pizza was great! The toppings are plentiful and of excellent quality! The crust was handmade and the sauce was plentiful and very good!And, the gentleman behind the counter brought our order out to our car.Thank you very much!We strongly recommend Avalanche Pizza!
They can usually make a good pizza but they have gone down hill recently. I've got specialty pizzas with under cooked ingredients if they arent straight up missingFor example I got the steak and potato pizza with undercooked potatoes and all the steak was clumped up in a few spots making it gross and slimey. Another time I got the Cuban pizza but they forgot the pulled pork and since I hadn't eaten all day I just ate it since it was almost midnight
Get the soylent green!! Oh my goodness, never have broccoli and spinach been in such harmony! My husband got pepperoni and cheese... still good but wow, the green!!
I am not a pizza person, my husband is, but this was right next to our hotel and the Google reviews were great so we tried it. Everything about this pizza is perfect! The topping ratio, the sauce and the crust. I ate three pieces. I never eat more than two and NEVER the crust but I ate every single bite of all three. If you haven’t tried it, try it once, you won’t be disappointed and you’ll probably order it again. We will definitely order from here on our next visit. Yummo!!
Awesome pizza place with a great selection of quality pizzas. I tried the southeast engine delight pizza because it sounded like something I'd never tasted on a pizza before. It was amazing! Really high quality taste and surprisingly I had a nostalgic connection to the taste itself, bringing me back to when I was a kid. I'm sure not everyone will have that connection, but it's still a great pizza. Friend had a chicken Florentine pizza, that too was very delicious and well made. Also their tiramisu was exceptional. Best I've had in Ohio so far. Will be coming back multiple times
I enjoy eating here. Most of the time it's good. Crust could be better. It's super chewy. And because it is another hyped up local athens spot, seems they know they can get away with bad service on occasion and nothing will happen.
They were super busy and still took the time to explain their gluten free crust for me. Best GF pizza I've ever had, didn't miss the regular crust at all. Pizza was ready sooner than expected. Highly recommend!
