When you visit Mountain Fried Chicken, it's always for the food. The chicken stands alone as the best tasting healthy chicken out there. It's never greasy and since the first time I was introduced to it, it's been a delicious secret that when I returned from a road trip with it in tow, I was greeted with excitement.Cliche as it is, I'll be a customer for many years to come.
Chicken was still good, slack on umber of potato wedges, and mom's Mac and cheese was different, actually tasted and looked nasty. Threw it out after one bite. Rating is for chicken alone
Nice local food, they take a little longer than most places but you always get fresh well cooked food at good prices.
I've been going to this location since it opened ~20 years ago. Although the flavor of their chicken wings and other fixin's is still great, the chicken meat quality isn't near as good as it used to be. The last several times I've gotten chicken wings from here, the chicken was always mostly-to-all wings too dry... more so for their drumette wings. I don't know if they're cooking them too long now, or if the chicken pieces themselves are less meat, but yet still cooking the same amount of time, therefore causing them to overcook, or they just make too many at once and sits in a warmer too long... I don't know. I just pray they begin to get better like they used to be in chicken quality.
Never coming back here again I found a fly in the Mac and cheese only reason I'm giving 2 stars is because the chicken was good however there is no excuse for a bug in my food
The one in University Pkwy is awesome, the food, atmosphere, and the staff but I've been into the one on Akron and itsvan old building but needs repair, looks dingy with water damage, to me.But I returned several times because the food was better than most around. The ladied working the register (all 5 visits, two employees alternating)..were vague, borderline disrespectful with attitudes of prejudice, in that seemed short fused about our menu questions, impatient with our decision time and franky a general permanent unwelcome anyone white or stranger.Their laxy daisy attitude and performance efforts was not given tartky to people of color.And like I said I went several times while I stayed there.Recently I visited the University Pwy (Big lots parking lot) the food was the same delicious receive but the overall store was older also, but visually clean and clutter free. All employees I encountered were professional, courteous and job oriented. I noticed the differences and felt accepted and equal in the environment. Made my likelihood of revisiting extremely higher.Just saying.. if I was south, east,west or north Winston and wanted mountain fried chicken-I would pass right by Akron to get that open atmosphere with my meal.Love your chicken!
The chicken was fried perfect! It was tasty! Not greasy at all. I didn't get to try the potato wedges because they sweated in the plate before I got to them. But I'd definitely try there again anytime I'm in Winston Salem.
One word Delicious 10 pc wings potato salad & wedges. I will definitely be a regular????
Some of the best fried chicken you can get in Winston-Salem. & the wedges that come with it are delicious!!(Don't get the Mac & cheese unless you like tomato sauce & the greens are SUPER bland) Sweet Tea is usually banging! Semi following Covid.
The chicken might would have been delicious if not for his soggy it was. The Mac and cheese was listed like it was about to good and....it was not.
