It's been a while since I have dined in, but last week I went with a newly hired employee. I was impressed with the attention to detail paid to us. I was asked if I wanted an itemized bill, then he brought around a to-go box without having to ask, and even asked if I wanted a lid for my marinara container. A+! Our food was really good too and came out quickly.
The Mellow Mushroom Experience ( Walk-In Edition). I wanted some pizza on this day and dropped by Mellow Mushroom at approximately 11 am to beat the lunch rush. So when entering, I was the only customer in the establishment, which was my plan all along. I ordered a slice of pepperoni pizza with a house salad with mixed greens topped with roma tomatoes, cucumbers, sweet onions, and shaved parmesan. I knew coming in early would have me in and out fast; however, I was wrong. I waited about 20 minutes for a reheated slice of pizza and a small salad.While waiting for my food, I saw the kitchen go from one cook to multiple staff members behind the line. Could the delay in my food be from staff leisurely coming into work and not being on time? This question certainly leaves me to think this was the case. Nevertheless, once ready to eat, I felt like my pizza tasted like I had picked it up from a gas station. However, the salad was tasty with the Esperanza salad dressing. Although I have had Mellow Mushroom in the past, the taste of the slice was not comparable to my prior tasting experiences. I tend not to come to Mellow Mushroom because parking is undesirable at this downtown location, and after what I tasted, I am unsure I will be back anytime soon.
I have a love-hate relationship with this restaurant. I live nearby and I love the pizza... But the customer service, both in the restaurant and for pick-up, is AWFUL. Every time I go in this restaurant, the staff is just standing around doing nothing. It is the most maddening situation. The management should be replaced for allowing this to happen. Such a shame since the pizza is so good.
Pretzels are good but we waited way too long! Cold pizza sauce with a hot pretzel. ? Okay. Saturday afternoon at 5 the place had empty tables.Pizza selection of Weird combos, interesting. Soup came out stone cold gelatinous salty yukSent back to heat. Barely warmed. Not worth fighting over, but disappointing, at best. Pizza came out warm, thankfully. Toppings were larger than normal, randomly placed, like a first grader's art work, or abstract art. My friends took us out to their favorite haunt, I expected more. Place was packed when we left. This bad review won't hurt them. But be warned.

FOR ONLINE ORDERS: Set your pick up time 1 hour in advance because they will NOT be ready at the time you scheduled to pick up your food. I had placed an order at 3:00pm for 1 large pizza to be picked up at 6:00pm on the same day, but they did not have my food ready and I had to wait for 25 minutes. I don't understand. What's the point of placing an online order for a scheduled pickup when the food is going to be made once you arrive at the restaurant anyways? Doesn't that completely defeat the purpose of picking the food up at a certain time? You might as well just place the order at the restaurant when you get there because you're going to have to wait regardless. I am extremely disappointed in their service. The only reason why they didn't receive a 1 star review from me is because they have dank food. Even with their delayed scheduled pickup time, their food is still fantastic, and I still find myself going back over and over again.Their Holy shiitake pizza is so good that it will make you say "Holy Shiitake, this is the best pizza I've ever had!" Every bite is a graceful stroke of both savory and umami flavors perfectly intertwined with each other, unraveling a feeling from within that you've never experienced before. The perfect ratio of shiitake mushrooms, secret sauce, mozzarella cheese, and oven-baked bread will force you to realize that you will continue eating until you finish the entire pie. Make sure you get an XL, you'll thank me later.Pizza is 9/10Service is 2/10
I’ve had their pizza many times. I was never real thrilled. Tonight I figured out why. There is no sauce on it. They dab it around the outside and that’s it. It’s all cheese in the middle. The sauce normally is the best part.

After my visit last night, I will say that this is one of my new favorite spots! Great food, great service and the wait is reasonable. But a Jerk Chicken Hoagie though? Really? Who would've thought that would work flawlessly? Because it did!
The food is great, highly recommend the Cloud 9 wings. However customer service is definitely lacking. We were seated in a section almost immediately but waited 10-15 minutes to be acknowledged. Then when we inquired about the drink menu the waitress who looked less than enthused Said all they were doing was beer. I’m a beer drinker I would’ve gladly looked at that menu but that also left my partner to get a regular fountain drink which is always flat when we ordered. Just getting paid and wanting to enjoy a good meal with a good experience didn’t seem obtainable so we ended up just leaving. I didn’t feel good about spending $60-$70 for a subpar experience.
