I have seen this place many times but never ate here. Well Saturday, I did! And I could have kicked myself for not coming before. The atmosphere was great, staff greeted you when you walked in, and food was by far everything I had expected. I got a hotdog and fries. I see why this place has been around for over 100 years. Just a heads up, cash only.
First time here and I had mixed feelings. I moved to Wilson NC some seven years ago but have never had a chance to stop by.I got a welcoming invitation to done in but I was getting mine to go. I got my dogs with the meat sauce with an order of fries after I confirmed that they were not the thin shoestring fries that restaurants offer when they have gave up. These fries were crinkle cut with a body and freshly made.The walls are filled with old photos and memories that gives you the impression that this site was really big and bought the customers a lot if excitement. I could imagine that it must have been a great time to come on a hot summer night for a burger and friesI found that the meat sauce was not to my liking as it wasn't very hot and was dry. I did find the dogs were really close to what I had in NY old town but was dramatically different.The fries on the other hand were great.
I was working in Wilson and stumbled across this place. I asked what I should get being a first timer and she set me up with a chili dog with mustard and onions lol it was really good!! I know its "just a chili dog" but they cooked everything perfectly, it tasted like a home meal, not fast food. I liked the originality of the place; they had photos all over the walls, the original seating. It was cool getting to see the place over the years and all the people that have come through. Everyone that works there is really nice! I didn't catch the girls name that was working at the time but she was such a sweetheart. Definitely coming back when I work in Wilson again!
First visit and was very disappointed. The chili was not good to me but I have to say the fries were hot and delicious. Staff very friendly.
I think this place survives mostly on nostalgia. The French fries are pretty good, but everything else is kinda mediocre. The hotdogs I got were not very good. Hwy 55 on Airport Blvd is much better.
Local place that has been a staple of Wilson culture for years. The cheese dog is my go-to here. Nice staff as well make dining here a pleasure.
Visited here because I had heard how great it is. Wow! Could not have been more disappointed. Plain old red hot dog, cold roll, and canned chili. Apparently no one in Wilson has ever eaten a great hot dog. Please don't waste your time here. A convenience store can serve a better hot dog. Pitiful!!
Best chili dogs in NC -- not kidding -- amazing! The burger was good, too. The food, nostalgic atmosphere, the cordial chef and sweet waitress all make this my new regular lunch stop.
Friendly restaurant with good food. Hot dogs are plain food, usually not celebrated; however, the service was very good, fries were hot, the salad fresh, and the prices reasonable. Can't ask for more.
Ate there yesterday for the first time with my husband who loves hot dogs and burgers. Did my research regarding reviews and looked at photos. We weren't disappointed, in fact we actually loved it. The hot dogs and burgers were made to order. They all tasted fresh and delicious! Most of all, the prices were very reasonable. We plan on coming again when in the area to try other options in the menu.
