We ate here before heading over to a concert at the Live Oak Bank Pavilion. The food was good and the staff were friendly. Our waiter was attentive and the food came out quickly. I had the Bacon Bacon Burger. It was good and so were the fries. I’m not sure why, but the fries had a different flavor that we liked. Maybe they fried them in a different oil?
Try the exotic proteins. The staff was friendly and service excellent.
Great find in Wilmington. Excellent food the chimi steak was out of this world great. The soft shell crab special with fig and apricot risotto - fantastic can’t say enough.
Food was okay. Mine had good flavor (ostrich panini) My husband's elk burger was raw inside. To be fair, maybe that's what is considered medium rare. Service was mediocre and distracted by cellphones, considering there was only a couple tables full and a few people at the bar. Restaurant was dirty. Needs a deep clean and dusting.

Wanted to love it but experience fell short of expectations. Had the Flatbread with butternut squash curry and beets which was delicious. The beer on tap also excellent. For entrée ordered the Off Beet salad which honestly, did not taste good. The flavor combination did not work for me or my dining companion. Very disappointing. People at the next table seemed to be enjoying their burgers.
I have always loved the space. It’s open, and offers a nice Front Street view. However!!!! Tonight was so disappointing. The somewhat friendly staff almost acted stoned upon entering. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, but when you are the third couple in the entire place? How hard is it to pay attention? And the bartender was just as clueless. At one point we had to go to the bar to order drinks. He asked if we had a tab, which is kind of funny because he is literally 10 feet from where we are sitting and there’s two other couples in the restaurant. Now comes the food. Lackluster and meh. Except the Brussels Sprouts, which I normally don’t like. They were great! So, if you’re into mediocrity? Well, welcome to 2022
The environment was nice and cozy and clean... the waitstaff were very friendly and attentive... my burger was cooked to perfection and tasted amazing... the only reason I can't give it 5 stars is because the menu items were so over priced...
Platypus and Gnome is an absolute gem among a lot of very good places to enjoy. The service and food were excellent, the wild boar soup is very tasty with just a bit of heat, lamb chop cooked to perfection and just the right amount of mint. The elk burger was very tasty but bun slides around a lot making it hard to get a bite of everything on burger, which is probably the reason for wooden skewer that I took out. Everything we had was excellent. Interesting that you can wear a hat but must sit at the bar if you do. Platypus and Gnome is a must stop for anyone visiting Wilmington.
The food was delicious. We had the Scottish egg( that was my first and was delicious)app.. see attached photo!! The bacon burger was delish, the bacon jam was off the chain. My partner ordered the smoked duck sandwich. The food and service was great. Highly recommend!!
