The food is amazing here but the bartender was so rude and condescending I’d never go back. She ruined my stay at the Ballast. Everyone else was so kind and polite but she was consistently hateful and made my experience significantly less enjoyable.
We were a group of four just wanting cocktails. We sat at the bar and the bartender was Grace. She was amazing! She didn't just make our drinks she crafted each one with care and creativity. Our drinks were spectacular! Grace was easily engaged in conversation and is very knowledgeable about the art of cocktail making and spirits in general. We had a delightful and relaxing time and look forward to returning.
My friend and I went in to place an order to go and had the rudest experience with Grace. It was so bad we decided to leave and not order at all. Turned out this was 2nd time my friend has had bad experience with same woman. I have never been in here.After asking a simple question if chicken in quesdilla can be switched to beef, Grace decided the best reply would be "Your not in a Mexican restaurant, but I'll be happy to recommend a good one for you.," Really? Poorest customer service I've ever experienced. And the rudest.
Wouldn't know if the food is any good because...The service is absolutely horrible. The management must think because they have a captured audience of folks staying in the hotel they don't have gto try to do well.I absolutely hate this place.To contrast it, there are three people working the front desk fiddling with their iPhones not even looking up or paying attention to guests.Additionally, there are two people making drinks behind the bar and not going out to take drink orders.MY Rotary District has this place booked for mid September. I'm not returning and m a district officer. I'll do my best to get this relocated elsewhere.Worst excuse for a convention place ever.
Grace the bartender is rude and just mean for no reason....like please explain why you are a bartender but you don't like people and you don't like serving!!!! It was so bad that we didn't order second rounds... we just left.

Ate here a few times for breakfast during our stay and the food was decent and fresh enough for being a hotel restaurant. Their Crab Cake Benedict was worth a try.
We did not stay at the hotel. We stopped in to the bar on the lower floor. Very beautiful - newly redecorated. The view out to the river was lovely. But the drinks that were done were great. Moreover, the bartender ( Grace ) is the most skilled I've ever seen. She was passionate about her work. She even makes her own style of bitters! To watch her move, putting together her concoctions was amazing. Go there when Grace is there ---- entertainment all by itself.
A must in Wilmington if staying or near Hotel Ballast. Grace’s old fashion cocktail just to watch to make much less drink is a bar hit.
Great service, limited menu, food plus minus. Great access to the boardwalk, to which i is adjacent.
