I've been dinning here since we moved here 14 years ago. Let me tell you, it's the best fried chicken I've ever had. Cooked all the way through, usually right out of the fryer. Not shy about seasonings in any of the food.The owners are normally there every day preparing the food. Don't be surprised if she comes out to ask you how's your food is. She makes the sheet cakes from scratch. The carrot cake is the only one I've tried so far. It brings back memories of my mother's.To say this place is a local favorite is a understatement. Her daughter has a snow cone place one block away that is a local icon as well. The building is shaped like a huge snow cone. It also has a huge rotating granite ball that is supported by water. Definitely a must see, especially if you have children.Everyone here has an attitude sweeter than southern sweet tea. I grew up in a small town. Grand Rapids, Ohio pop 3,000 on the weekends. That being said, it's so nice to have the direct eye to eye contact service with a smile.You won't regret dinning here.
They have bad customer service when it comes to handle wrong orders. it have been several times I they have gotten my order wrong. then they blame it on the customer instead of taking responsibility. So that way they dont have to compensate for there mistake. they will tell you to hold your food for up to a wk and bring it back to get your right order. they won't give nothing to makeup for their mistake. and you have to drive more gas out to go back to get the right order. This is the first time I have left a review, but it's not the first time they have messed my order up. and their food is not cheap, so you pay all the money, for the to basically give you there but to kiss.
Cash only now!!!! What the heck. I called in my order and drove 25 minutes out of way just to find out The Chicken Barn only accepts cash now. Many customers live in the 21st century now...and drop carry money with them... Heck a heads up while I was placing my order would have been nice so I would not have wasted my time...
The girl you have working at the drive through has terrible customer service. It was May 6th at 6:45pm. I was not greeted when I arrived at the window, and she was not friendly at all. She handed me my food and I said to her “thank you” she did not reply, she just turned around and looked away. I said “thank you” again louder and she still refused to reply. I tried to email you using the email address on your website but it wasn’t working so I had to post this publicly. I eat at your establishment a lot and I don’t want to put a negative review on your Google listing and normally your workers are quite friendly but she almost made me ask for a full refund because of terrible service and for the first time I regretted spending my money here.Edit 5/14/22: I appreciate the owners feedback on this.
my friends decided to go to lunch here. staff is very cordial. perhaps it’s as i don’t like fried chicken much, but perhaps it wasn’t…. i decided to get a chicken biscuit…. biscuit was good, but was rather hard. as for the chicken itself, it was a bit harder than i expected it to be, and you get an intense taste of pepper when you take a bite out of it. not my favorite, but to each their own.

This place has the best fried chicken in Johnston County! Anything ordered like gizzard, livers, pork chops is cooked to order. The chicken is dropped so often it rarely gets old or dry! They season their menu items perfectly and all side dishes and desserts are fresh! I suggest that you make a detour off 95 and come visit this local family owned business. Just in case you didn't know if you take the Smithfield exit by the outlets turn right, go through 3 stop lights and right after you pass the third stop light you will see a gas station on your right hand side, Chicken Barn is on the other side of the gas station! Go get your cluck on!! Happy Eating!!
mediocre food, i could tell the grease they fry their chicken in was old. the potatoe salad is banging tho but they give you a one bite sized cup for the sides. also its part of a gas station just fyi but its quick food
Best take out fried chicken consistently in area, good sides too. Have hard to find old fashioned southern dishes like fried livers, gizzards, and pork chops too. Love its local standard that's stood the test of time even despite its location change years ago
